The Baked Goods ( Sabang )
Holla OpenRicers! I’m back with cakery review this time. Just a week ago, I visited one of the famous cakeries in Jakarta, The Baked Goods. It’s actually because I read several positive reviews on OpenRice and then I was eager to try it myself. Afterall, I am a sucker for cakes!
Then I was there, and got to try it myself. Horay.
The place itself is pretty strategic. Located at the corner of the street, people can easily spot the place if you often pass the street there. The parking lot is pretty awful though. It is kinda small, but I got no problem parking my car. It wasn't that crowded that night.
The first impression that came to my mind was "cute". Yeah, the place is kinda cute, and it's going to be much nicer if it is located on the second floor. But this will suffice anyway. It has both outdoor area and indoor area, but as usual, I prefer the indoor area. The outdoor area appeared too "formal" with big wooden chairs and big tables. The atmosphere was pretty dry too. On the other hand, the indoor seating area is nice. It's small, but nice. The interior is pretty simple, with limited chairs and tables. You can see the cakes and stuff they sell on the cake bar. The cakes and stuff were arranged as neatly and as attractive as possible. As a result, it looked clean, simple and inviting. The shop assistants or waiters were very friendly too.
I found several cakes like Lemon Poppyseed, Bublanina, Dark Choco Walnut Pie and Fruit Tarts around the bar. You can even see some other cakes inside the display fridge. In the end, since they had too many cakes to be chosen, I made a quick choice for Carrot Cake and a Cupcake. Then I did regret my quick decision. I supposed to try the Bublanina which is the signature product, and it is a universal Czech cake. It is kinda cheap too.
FYI, they even offer diabetic products, such as Carrot Cakes and Oat Cranberry Cakes. They looked lovely.
~ Carrot Cake (with Cream Cheese Frosting) ~
Price: IDR 22 k
I chose this because I was kinda curious about how it would taste like. Carrot as cake? I couldn't imagine that.So I just had to try it myself. It appeared that the Carrot Cake was kinda good, in a unique way. The cake had this rough texture, which looked like shredded carrots to me (I might be wrong), and it tasted kinda sweet (but not too sweet) and had this unique appeal. I would say that this kind of cake is certainly not everybody's cup of tea. My sis and mom didn't like it, but I did. Especially the cream cheese, which really enhanced the taste. It's worth a try though.
~ Vanilla Cupcake with Strawberry (Rhum) Frosting ~
Price: IDR 25 k
Cupcake! Who loves cupcakes? A lot of people! So, I just decided I had to try it myself. There were several choices of cupcakes, from Vanilla, Cappuccino, or Chocolate. Then you can choose the frosting, Strawberry, Vanilla, and Chocolate. You can even ask them to add rhum in your choice of frosting, the waitress asked me though, and I like Rhum, so it's a yes from me.
And after a bite of this cupcake, I like it! It's quite hard for the first bite, but then I realized that it might be their characteristic in baking this vanilla cupcake. A harsh texture with crunchy sensation. The thing I really like from this cupcake was the frosting. I love the strawberry frosting. The rhum flavour was very strong, and it suited me well. The strawberry flavour was good enough to compliment the cupcake.
~ Iced Cappuccino ~
Price: IDR 29 k
This was definitely one of the best that night, surprisingly. I love the Cappuccino! It's simply delicious, with the typical bittersweet taste. But the coffee blended perfectly. You can always add the sugar liquid if you think it is too bitter, but for me, the bitterness was perfect. It wasn't too bitter, and for me, it is one of the best Cappuccino.
Yep, that was all. I didn't try the others since I was fully loaded before getting here, therefore, I decided to try others some other days. The one that I am still curious is the Bublanina. They even serve some light and heavy meals that you can try. From Tuna Sandwich to The Baked Goods Lasagna.
The price range for food is IDR 14.5 to IDR 55 k (for Lasagna). They have this whole cakes too that you can always buy for special occasions.
The price range for drinks is IDR 15 k to IDR 39 k, from Hot Rosella Tea to Ice Caramel Latte.
Facilities:
+ Outdoor and Indoor Seating Area
+ Light Meals, Heavy Meals, Cakes, and Desserts
+ Diabetic Products
