People! Just a few days ago I went to attend the Food Blogger Gathering held by OpenRice and Taiyo Sushi
. Well, Taiyo Sushi is quite close from my house, and I always love sushi! I'm quite lucky that I got invited here. When I arrived, there were already several food bloggers sitting and waiting for other food bloggers who hadn't come. Let me introduce some that I just knew that day, from Dino (Good Food and Good Life), Selba (Shelby's Corner), Elvina (Elvina-Febriani), Tikka (The Gourmet Chic), and Wanda (The Full and Starving). James (Super Supper), Anna (57OdysseyGemini) and another two (Yummy For Dummy) came a bit later, and the last one but not least, Cen (XHottyPottyX) who arrived when we had started eating).
It's very nice meeting senior bloggers, and I felt a bit intimidated with their seniority and professionalism (being on time is one of the example, while I came quite late
) since I have just started my blog for about 2 months.
I should learn a lot from them. Well, but apparently they are super nice, so it eased my uneasiness at that moment. I heard a lot of their stories, and anyway, we talked about random things too, from funny stuff they experienced and some horrors story too. XD
Well, let's drop it before this review becomes creepy. The point is about our experience here.
When I arrived, without even asking, the waiter served me a glass of watermelon juice, plus a glass of ocha. It's very nice, especially the waitresses and waiters friendliness. They welcomed us and it feels good that they looked very sincere. After the drinks, we were served a cup of Chawan Mushi as a starter. Well, right after 90% of the expected foodbloggers had been there, the party was started.
First, as usual, there was an introduction session which involved the host questioning the manager, then the manager explained about some food they were going to serve for us. Anyway, the host was new! Hahaha, It's not Lina, yep, the eternal most wanted host.
It's Dita! Apparently she was doing quite good for a beginner! Looking for more hosting activities later from her, she's going to help Lina about this hosting stuff, partly because OpenRice is going to have more gathering every month right? So, it will be exhausting if Lina has to host every single gath.

Back to the topic!
The place itself is nice and comfortable. The dining area is spacious, and visitors can choose to sit anywhere. Taiyo has this conveyor sushi belt, and if you like sitting there, you can just sit there and pick the stuff that you like. If you come with a family, you can sit at the seats by the wall, which look quite private but comfy. That time, the room wasn't very cold, probably because of the room size which is very big.
After some explanation from the manager, we eventually got to eat! They were making the sushi in the sushi conveyor belt area, so we could take a look if we wanted too.It was quite interesting seeing the chef preparing our food. First, we were served a couple of portions Tempura Maki Floss. Then we got Aburi Mozzarella Roll, Taiyo Special Roll and Unagi Salmon Special. After several minutes, we were served another dishes, and this time, it was Kare Pasta, their newest dish. And after quite some time, they served us another sushi, and this time it's Spicy Salmon Fry.

~ Watermelon Juice ~
I wont discuss much about it, and I didn't attach the picture, but anyway, the watermelon juice was really refreshing. Love it!
~ Chawan Mushi ~
Price: IDR 12 k
This is actually a cup of Steamed Egg Custard, and if you have no idea what it is, you can just picture our "Tim Telur". It's quite similar to that. But it is slightly different since it has the Japanese typical taste. The Chawan Mushi here was soft and smooth in texture, with enough saltiness and some nice addition chicken chunks at the bottom. Like I said, it's a great start!
~ Tempura Maki Floss ~
Price: IDR 22 k
This dish is pretty common and you can easily find it everywhere, except for the floss. Usually people will just served a plain tempura maki, cause it's one of the Japanese original signature. The tempura was quite crunchy, and it tasted quite good overall. But I think, the floss might not be necessary, since the taste of the floss was quite strong, and it overwhelmed the good taste of the tempura. But, it was quite good though.
~ Abura Mozzarella Roll ~
Price: IDR 56 k
This is a fusion sushi, and for me, I think the ingredients looked very similar to a famous dish from other restaurant. It has baked salmon, mozzarella, crab stick inside, and floss. Not to mention the mayo. But it was quite good anyway. I love this one. It was rich in flavour, with generous stuff on and in it. The combination of baked mayo and mozzarella were perfect, and the floss made it richer. The mayo was quite overwhelming though, but since I love mayo, I love this sushi!
~ Taiyo Special Roll ~
Price: IDR 52 k
This one is their signature sushi roll. Of course, it was named after the restaurant after all.
I watched the chef made this, and I think it looked quite simple, but inviting. It was filled with salmon, cucumber, and crunchy bits, then topped with aburi or better known as half-broiled salmon plus spicy mayo. For me, it was not better than the Aburi Mozzarella Roll. It tasted a bit sour (dunno where it came from), and the spicy mayo was too overwhelming it made the taste was so blurry. I couldn't even remember the exact taste of this. Not my cup of tea I guess.
~ Unagi Salmon Special ~
Price: IDR 54 k
Apparently, this sushi roll looked very similar to Aburi Mozzarella Roll, but it' actually quite different. The fillings inside are unagi, crunchy bits, cucumber, and topped with salmon and tobiko, plus mayo. I didn't get to try this sushi at all, since in a portion, there are only about 8 pieces of sushi, and there were around 10-11 food bloggers there. So, each of us got to try 3 fusion sushi out of 4.
~ Kare Pasta ~
Price: IDR 45 k
Kare Pasta is the newest dish on the menu in Taiyo Sushi, and we got to try it! Kare Pasta is Fettuccine with Beef and Curry Sauce. IMO, this was very delicious. It tasted very good, and quite addictive. It was mildly spicy, with light curry flavor, and delicious beef. The fettuccine was perfectly cooked too, without being too soft or too hard. This Kare Pasta is recommended!
~ Spicy Salmon Fry ~
Price: IDR 26 k
Spicy Salmon Fry is a fried sushi with spicy mayo as the filling, then showered with some spicy mayo. It's quite good. You can taste the spiciness, and feel the crunchiness. The spiciness I meant is only a mild spiciness. The salmon inside was quite nice too. It was recommended too. It became our last dish.
Well, I certainly was very happy there. Taiyo Sushi is a good place if you feel like eating sushi around Pluit. The restaurant is nice, comfortable with spacious dining area, the waitresses are kind and welcoming, plus the prices are reasonable. Compared to other fusion Japanese Restaurants, they offer sushi with cheaper prices. If you don't feel like eating sushi, you can find a lot of other Japanese dishes here. Maybe you can have their pasta. The Kare Pasta is certainly recommended.
If OpenRicers haven't checked this place out, you should do it soon. Especially if you're sushi lovers.
