Pendiri nya adalah Ibu Henny yang memulai bisnis kuliner dengan bermodalkan pengetahuan yang didapat dari demo masak masakan Eropa, beberapa seminar dan juga hobi memasak. Tapi hasilnya ternyata luar biasa, usaha Ibu Henny terus berlanjut dengan pindah ke Jalan Haji Nawi dan beroperasi tahun 1993-2009. Setelah hampir 5 tahun berisitirahat, Oktober 2014 Kemang Steak kembali dibuka untuk meramaikan PIK yang sedang happening akhir-akhir ini.

Dekorasi depan menyerupai rumah koboi yang ada di Dufan lah, trus disebelahnya ada Warung Nuri’s dan salon Toni & Guy. Selain itu, kemang steak bisa dikenali dari asap yang terus mengebul dibagian depannya, karena memang dengan open kitchen dibagian depan, daging yang dibakar menggunakan bara dari batok kelapa membuat asap langsung mengepul keluar, tapi dengan harumnya steak donk.

Beruntung saya segera mendapat jawaban yang pasti akurat, karena berasal dari pemiliknya langsung.
Adalah Ibu Hj. Henny, pendiri Kemang Steak, yang awalnya bereksperimen mmbuat steak bermodalkan demo masak makanan Eropa dan hobi beliau memasak. Dari tangan beliau tercipta resep steak legendaris yang khas dan sesuai selera orang Indonesia. Lokasi pertama restoran yang dibuka Ibu Hj. Henny pada tahun 1992 memang berada di daerah Kemang, maka dinamakanlah Kemang Steak.
Setahun kemudian Kemang Steak berpindah lokasi ke Jl. Haji Nawi Raya, dan sukses beroperasi selama bertahun-tahun di sini. Saya sebut sukses, karena saya ingat dulu setiap kali melewati jalan tersebut -baik pada siang, sore, maupun malam hari, restoran ini selalu ramai pengunjung. Sebuah restoran yang tampak sederhana dengan papan nama bertuliskan "Pondok Kemang Steak", namun parkirannya selalu penuh dan dapurnya terus mengepulkan asap bakaran beraroma sedap.

Sempat tutup di tahun 2009 dan vakum dari bisnis kuliner selama lima tahun, Ibu Hj. Henny membuka kembali Kemang Steak di tahun 2014 dengan konsep baru. Resep steak tetap sama, karena disitulah keistimewaannya, namun "kemasan" restoran kini "naik kelas". Bekerja sama dengan Bapak David Very Susanto sebagai managing director, Kemang Steak yang sekarang benar-benar sebuah restoran, bukan sekedar pondok makan ala rumahan. Lokasinya dipilih Pantai Indah Kapuk yang belakangan ini terkenal sebagai pusat kuliner kekinian di Jakarta.

Di paling depan, tamu "disambut" oleh Moo Moo, patung sapi lucu maskot Kemang Steak yang menjadi spot foto favorit. Area restoran terbagi menjadi 2 yaitu outdoor (tentunya sekaligus smoking area) dan indoor (non smoking) yang nyaman dengan pendingin ruangan. Keseluruhan desain interiornya bertema rustic dengan bata ekspos di dinding lantai bawah dan finishing semen di dinding lantai atas. Berbagai pernik menarik menghiasi ruangan restoran, termasuk koleksi testimoni para selebriti dan pejabat yang pernah menikmati kelezatan Kemang Steak sejak outlet lamanya di Kemang dan Haji Nawi. Meja dan kursi makan berbentuk simple dari bahan kayu dengan model kursi tanpa sandaran seperti di bangku di warung makan.

Mempertahankan konsep outlet lamanya, dapur masih terletak di bagian depan restoran. Asap bakaran steak seakan tak berhenti "ngebul" sejak restoran dibuka, dan ini bisa menjadi daya tarik bagi pengunjung yang tadinya sekedar lewat menjadi akhirnya mampir.
Untuk menjaga originalitas resep keluarga sekaligus regenerasi, dua putri Ibu Hj. Henny yaitu Asih Winarsih dan Endah Nur Pratamasari bergabung mengelola restoran. Tak tanggung-tanggung, mereka turun tangan langsung di bagian dapur, untuk memastikan semua menu dibuat sesuai resep keluarga sehingga kualitas rasa senantiasa terjaga.
Berbicara rasa, keunggulan Kemang Steak terletak pada signature BBQ sauce dari resep rahasia keluarga Ibu Hj. Henny yang tak ada duanya. Di Kemang Steak, daging tidak dimarinasi melainkan langsung dibakar di atas bara arang batok kelapa sambil diolesi bumbu BBQ. Tersedia berbagai pilihan daging steak sapi impor dan lokal, lamb chop, ikan, dan chicken filllet yang lezat dan 100% halal.
Jika saus BBQ di daging masih terasa kurang, tidak perlu repot meminta tambahan ke waiter karena di setiap meja telah tersedia sebotol saus yang bisa ditambahkan sepuasnya. Saya pribadi lebih suka mencocolkan kentang goreng ke saus ini daripada ke saus sambal botolan. Aroma rempah yang khas, perpaduan rasa asin-manis-asam yang balance, serta sedikit pedas dari black pepper menjadikan saus BBQ ini sungguh istimewa. 
Setiap porsi steak dihidangkan bersama side dish salad sayuran dan kentang goreng. Salad sayuran yang diberikan di sini ala Indonesia yaitu wortel, buncis, dan jagung pipilan yang ditumis dengan sedikit minyak. Semua sayuran fresh (bukan frozen vegetables) dan tingkat kematangan pas sehingga rasa, warna, dan teksturnya terjaga baik. Untuk kentang gorengnya, waaahh.. ini saya suka sekali! Kentang goreng home made yang rupanya juga dibuat dengan resep rahasia keluarga karena belum pernah saya temukan di tempat lain. Bagian luarnya sangat garing dengan semacam lapisan tepung berbumbu yang cukup tebal sehingga agak keras, namun ketika digigit bagian dalamnya tetap empuk dan lembut. Saya justru lebih suka kentang goreng seperti ini dibandingkan french fries biasa, tak heran jika dalam waktu singkat kentangnya habis duluan.

Sepotong tulang iga sapi berbalut daging tersaji di piring bersama kentang goreng dan salad sayuran. Besar porsinya pas untuk ukuran saya, dan sangat sesuai dengan harganya. Jika dinilai dari rasa dan kualitas daging, harga itu bahkan tergolong murah untuk seporsi steak ala restoran. Daging di sekitar tulang cukup banyak, empuk, dan masih sedikit juicy meskipun di-grill hingga tingkat kematangan well done. Baluran saus BBQ pada daging terasa nikmat membuat kita tak ingin menyisakan sedikit daging pun dari potongan tulang. Eitss.. di Kemang Steak tidak perlu jaim untuk makan menggunakan tangan. Jadi.. silakan digerigiti sepuasnya hingga bersih!

Fillet kakap merah yang tersaji di piring saya cukup besar dan tebalnya pas. Berbeda dengan teman yang katanya mendapatkan fillet ikan kurang segar, fillet di piring saya masih segar dengan aroma daging ikan kakap yang wajar. Ketika dipotong dengan pisau pun teksturnya masih baik tidak hancur, menandakan kualitas yang masih baik. Tingkat kematangan tepat dengan salah satu sisi agak kering tetapi daging masih lembut dan juicy. Beberapa teman yang mencicip fillet ikan dari piring saya juga berpendapat sama dan tidak ada komplain mengenai kualitas atau kesegaran ikan. Well, mungkin teman saya sedang bernasib kurang baik, tetapi hal ini perlu diperhatikan juga oleh Kemang Steak agar ke depannya jangan sampai terulang kembali.

Potongan salmon cukup besar dan tebal, ketika dipotong dagingnya masih juicy dan tidak mudah hancur. Warna orange cantik dan tekstur daging yang masih firm menandakan kualitas daging yang baik dan segar, serta pastinya di-grill pada tingkat kematangan sempurna sehingga tidak sampai kering/keras. Satu-satunye jenis red meat yang paling saya suka adalah tenderloin, maka tak saya lewatkan kesempatan mencicipinya. Ketika dipotong, bagian tengah daging terlihat masih berwarna pink kemerahan, kira-kira pada tingkat kematangan medium. Meskipun tebal, teksturnya dagingnya empuk dan masih juicy, serta yang terpenting tidak berlemak. Daging impor berkualitas ini terasa semakin lezat dengan baluran saus BBQ istimewa dari Kemang Steak. Penyajiannya cute sekali dengan tampilan seperti wajah snowman (atau potatoman? ;P) yang disusun dari potongan buncis dan wortel. Dari bahan yang sederhana namun menghasilkan tampilan yang menarik karena ide kreatif. Awalnya agak sayang "merusak" snowman lucu ini, namun sekali coba saya pun tak sabar segera menyendoknya lagi sampai habis, karenaaa... rasanya super enak! Tekstur yang lembut, creamy, dan campuran rasa kentang dengan susunya pas sesuai selera saya.

Selain aneka steak menggiurkan, Kemang Steak mempunyai beberapa minuman khas yang patut dicoba.

Dari awal saya sudah tertarik mencobanya, karena dari namanya saya membayangkan rasanya pasti segar dan cocok diminum setelah menyantap steak yang gurih dan "berat". Tak meleset dugaan saya, rasanya tepat seperti yang diharapkan. Asam jeruk nipisnya masih terasa segar namun tidak membuat kita sampai mengernyitkan mata karena terlalu asam. Terdapat sepotong batang serai dalam gelas sebagai alat pengaduk sekaligus memberi aroma tambahan pada minuman. Sempat agak khawatir jika aromanya terlalu kuat (karena saya tidak suka aroma serai pada minuman), ternyata justru hampir tidak ada pengaruhnya sama sekali. Syukurlah! Saya pun bisa menikmati segelas fresh lime ini hingga tuntas.

Perpaduan dari broccoli, kiwi, dan nanas, ditambah buah kalengan sebagai topping. Warna hijaunya cantik, serasi dengan warna-warni buah kalengan sebagai aksen. Saya sempat mencicip sedikit pesanan teman, ternyata rasanya enak, semenarik tampilannya. Aroma sayur sama sekail tidak terasa, juga asam manisnya pas, dan pastinya sehat karena dibuat dari bahan-bahan segar. Home made cincau hijau disajikan dengan sirup dan selasih (basil seeds). Irisan jeruk nipis dan daun pandan rupanya bukan sekedar menjadi hiasan (garnish), melainkan bisa dicampurkan ke dalam minuman sehingga memberikan aroma wangi dan seberkas rasa asam segar. Keseluruhan rasa memang tidak terlalu istimewa, seperti es cincau pada umumnya, namun cukup memberikan kesegaran sekaligus sebagai dessert untuk menutup acara makan.

Makan di Kemang Steak terasa menyenangkan dengan tempat yang nyaman dan suasana homey, terasa seperti di rumah. Pilihan makanan cukup beragam, rasanya enak, bermutu baik, dan semuanya bisa dinikmati dengan harga yang sangat affordable. Pelayanan yang ramah dan cekatan juga membuat kita semakin puas makan di sini. Khusus untuk area PIK tersedia layanan delivery sehingga steak lezat juga bisa dinikmati di rumah.

Yupp, Kemang Steak! Loh kok di PIK? Jadi ternyata Kemang Steak itu memang awal dibuka nya adalah di Kemang, tepatnya pada tahun 1993 yang kemudian pada tahun 1993-2009 pindah ke Jalan Haji Nawi Jakarta Selatan, kala itu mereka masih menggunakan konsep 'rumahan'. Namun karena alasan ini dan itu, mereka memutuskan untuk vakum dari dunia perkulineran. Sampai akhirnya tahun 2014 ini mereka kembali membuka Kemang Steak namun dengan konsep 'rustic' ala Cowboy barat!

Sesampainya di Kemang Steak, kita sudah dihadirkan pemandangan yang agak 'beda' nih, yaitu kebulan asap dari kitchen yang sengaja di tempatkan di storefront dengan pemisah kaca, jadi kita bisa ngeliat yang lagi manggang-manggangnya. Ohiya Kemang Steak ini cukup unik loh, mereka masih mempertahankan 'cara' tradisional dalam mengolah steaknya, tanpa menggunakan alat-alat panggangan modern. Wahh... kebayang kan rasanya gimana? :9

Well seperti yang gw bilang bahwa konsep resto ini adalah 'rustic' ala Cowboy, dari awal masuk bisa dilihat mereka menggunakan interior-interior yang terbuat dari kayu, ada jam dinding kuno, plat-plat yang berisi quotes, dll. Personally gw cukup nyaman untuk berlama-lama disini.

Ini adalah menu yang gw pesan, berhubung gw memang pencita-kelas-akut Ribs. Untuk tampilannya cukup catchy, karena disediakan dengan tulang yang panjang dan melengkung, tapi bisa gw bilang porsinya cukup kecil mungkin karena harganya juga yang cukup terjangkau ya. Untuk dagingnya sendiri cukup empuk dan juicy, hanya saja yang gw dapet ini agak terlalu banyak lemaknya. Dan bumbu yang digunakan kurang tasty, tapi tenang aja, Kemang Steak juga menyediakan Saus racikan spesial loh. Ada Saus BBQ, dll yang bisa kalian tambahkan di steak kalian.
Ohiya untuk Kentang gorengnya juara banget deh, rasanya tuh bener-bener enak, crunchy inside outside. Gw jatuh cinta banget sama kentangnya!

I'm not a big fan of fish steak tho, exactly I don't really like to eat fish. Tapi gw nyobain steak ini sedikit dari temen gw, dan yang pertama gw rasain emang agak sedikit amis.Percobaan kedua agak mendingan sih, dan dapat gw tarik kesimpulan bahwa yang agak amis itu adalah bagian pinggir, sedangkan bagian tengah sih oke.

Untuk Australian sirloin, gw kebetulan mencoba yang dimasak dengan tingkat kematangan medium-rare. Honestly, gw lebih prefer steak yang dimasak well-done. selain karena gak ada merah-merah(alias darah), dagingnya juga gak se alot medium-rare. And this one is kinda 'alot' haha. Definitely not my cup of tea.

Kalau kalian lagi ngidam steak yang enak, tapi kantong lagi bolong(apalagi tengah bulan) wajib banget banget ke Kemang steak ini! walaupun agak jauh sih di PIK, but it's worth to try! Apalagi suasana restonya yang nyaman, tapi alangkah asiknya kalo ada tempat duduk sofa biar bisa senderan dengan nyaman

Welcome back Kemang Steak (Pondok Kemang Steak)! After 5 years of break, Kemang Steak, one of the most memorable “halal” steak restaurants that used to operate in Kemang, finally re-opens in PIK!
On November 29, Indonesian Food Blogger Group (IDFB) decided to have a gathering there with approximately 25 people. Mrs. Heny and daughters as founders of Kemang steak along with Mr. David Very as the managing director welcomed us with joy and explained the story behind this legendary steak house in detail.
One of the uniqueness of this restaurant that has been visited by various celebrities, lies within the cooking process. The meat is not marinated beforehand and it is cooked on top of charcoal rather than electric grill while being brushed by special family-recipe dressing.
Here are some of the dishes that were served:
150gr Australian T-bone (IDR 60K++)
I opted for a medium one but they gave me a well-done steak instead. I thought it was going to be as tough as stone as they overcooked it but it was tender enough to be eaten and I love the exotic flavor of the meat. However, I hate the fact that it was almost covered with fat.

Beef Ribs (IDR 55K++)
The smoky aroma of the ribs was so captivating despite the relatively small portion.

Australian Rib Eye (IDR 75K++)
I didn’t try this one as there wasn’t any space left in my tummy at that time.

Besides beef, they also provide some fish-steak. One of them is grilled salmon (IDR 75K++)

All dishes were served with chunky pieces of potato wedges (which I like better than skinny French fries) and stir-fry salad. You can also choose other side dishes such as mashed potato (IDR 25K++) or the all time Indonesian favorite; steamed rice (IDR 10K++).

Sedikit sejarah tentang Kemang Steak yang aku dapat, jadi Kemang Steak ini memang dulunya pernah sempat buka di Kemang untuk pertama kalinya di tahun 1992, dan pindah ke Jl. H. Nawi dari tahun 1993-2009 dengan nama Pondok Kemang Steak. Pada awalnya konsep dari Kemang Steak ini ala kedai rumahan yang sederhana gitu, lalu sempat ‘tertidur’ selama 5 tahun, sekarang Kemang Steak hadir lagi dengan konsep yang lebih fresh dan baru. Restoran ini bernuansa Rustic dengan banyak aksen kayu dan dinding berbatu bata. Meja dan Kursinya pun cukup sederhana ala kedai, dibagian depan ada dapur untuk grill steaknya. Kami semua menuju ke lantai 2 yang lebih cozy dan tenang.

Menu andalan dari Kemang Steak sendiri adalah Australian Sirloin Steak dan Beef Ribs, tapi adajuga menu lain selain itu yang banyak diminati yaitu Tenderloin, T-Bone Steak, Kakap, Salmon, dan Lamb Chop. Yang istimewa disini adalah diproses memasaknya dimana dagingnya tidak dimarinasi terlebih dahulu, tapi dibakar langsung diolesi bumbu dan memakai arang batok untuk membakarnya. Juga ada saus BBQ khas disini yang merupakan campuran dari secret ingredient keluarga Ibu Henni (Owner Kemang Steak).

Penyajian steak disini dilengkapi dengan side dish yang juga terbuat dari bahan-bahan segar (non frozen) seperti Potato Wedges yang ukurannya pas tidak terlalu kecil dan tidak terlalu besar, ini yang paling aku suka tektur kentang nya krispi diluar dan lembut di dalam juga diberi seasoning jadi lebih gurih. Ada juga salad ala Indonesia yaitu sayuran wortel, buncis, dan jagung manis juga mayones. Jangan takut jika tak suka potato wedges sebagai side dish nya ada juga nasi putih dan Mashed Potato.

Aku pada saat itu memesan T-Bone Steak dengan tingkat kematangan medium dan minumnya Fresh Lime Kemang. Disajikan di piring yang cukup lebar (bukan hotplate).

T-Bone Steak punyaku tingkat kematangannya lebih ke medium well nih, bagian juicy nya cuma sedikit. Dan yang agak mengecewakan adalah hampir sebagian besar T-Bone nya merupakan lemak, karena aku ga begitu suka lemak jadi tak kumakan. Yang menolong adalah Friesnya dan sausnya. Memang terasa sausnya khas dan beda, gurih dan cukup pedas.

Untuk Fresh Lime Kemang, ini merupakan sari buah jeruk nipis yang rasanya asam segar sangat cocok sebagai penetralisir sesudah menyantap steak. Di dalam gelasnya ada sebatang serai yang dikeprek, namun sayang sepertinya hanya sebagai hiasan saja karena tak ada rasa serai yang keluar sama sekali.

Selain menu yang aku pesan, aku pun sempat mencicipi menu lain yaitu Ribs Eye Steak atau Iga Bakar yang disajikan lengkap dengan tulangnya, dagingnya empuk dan gurih. Lalu ada Salmon Steak yang ukurannya cukup besar namun sayang agak terasa hambar dan lagi-lagi ditolong oleh sausnya. Ada pula Red Snapper yang cukup lama datangnya, dan untuk yang ini agak sedikit amis buatku. Untuk minuman ada Mixed Juice yang merupakan campuran Brokoli dan Kiwi yang di blend lalu diberi topping cocktail buah, rasanya asem manis segar juga. Dan terakhir ada Es Kemang Cincau, dimana rasanya di improvisasi sedikit dengan menambahkan sirup cocopandan, sedikit lemon danselasih. Rasanya jadi lebih segar lo.

Tempatnya sebenarnya tidak besar, terbagi menjadi 2 lantai. Di lantai pertama ada area indoor dan outdoor. Di lantai 2 desainnya berbeda sekali dengan lantai 1. Lantai 2 lebih nyaman. Kami memilih makan di lantai 2 dan kami doang pengunjungnya di lantai itu jadi terkesan private sekali.

Menu yang ditawarkan di tempat ini tidak hanya steak sapi, tetapi ada juga chicken steak dan salmon steak. Saya meminta rekomendasi dari pelayannya menu apa yang menjadi favorit di sini. Saya memesan United States Sirloin Steak dan pacar saya memesan Australian Sirloin Steak. Kami menunggu sekitar 15 menit sampai makanan kami datang.

United States Sirloin Steak
Ini adalah steak sapi dengan lemak yang tidak terlalu banyak. Ukurannya dibilang kecil tidak besar juga tidak, ya sedang lah. Disajikan dengan french fries dan tumis sayuran. Di atasnya ditancapkan bendera US menggambarkan nama menunya. Dagingnya ya tergolong sedang tingkat kelembutannya karena saya memesan medium rare, tidak mau well done. Warna merah dagingnya masih terlihat jelas. Rasanya sih enak, apalagi saosnya bikin tambah nikmat.

Australian Sirloin Steak
Ini pilihan menu pacar saya. Bentuknya ya mirip seperti pesanan saya, tapi daging dia terlalu banyak lemaknya. Rasanya sepertinya hampir sama saja, penyajiannya sama didampingi french fries dan tumis sayuran. Tidak lupa bendera Australia ditancapkan di atas steak.

Untuk harga tergolong cukup terjangkau, di bawah Rp 100.000,- Harga yang dibayarkan sepadan dengan rasa yang didapat.

It was kinda hectic that day due to the many invites who came to this event. But yet we found ourselves to be blending in joy and also sharing the excitement to try out the foods.

A little story about Kemang Steak. As you might have guessed, the first outlet was opened in the year 1992 at Kemang which contributed to the restaurant's name. After that, it moved to Jl. Haji Nawi in 1993 up until 2009. Thus afterwards it kinda hibernated for the upcoming 5 years ahead and then it re-opened again in the hip culinary area of Pantai Indah Kapuk.

Still maintaining its original concept of using coconut shell charcoal instead of the modern steak griller, gives Kemang Steak a one-of-a-kind trademark which is carried on to the food. Using traditional ways to grill the steak also giving it a nice scent and flavor to be incorporated in the dish.

The place sure is nice and comfy. There's a kind of warm feeling I got looking at the nicely decorated interior. Unfinished brick wall gave a homey feeling while the vintage ornaments and displays added a bit of sophistication.

The service was quite nice, although I found my order to came very late to my table (all the other bloggers have finished dining already!). But I understand that it was a hectic day and I was very pleased that the manager kept on reminding the waiters about my order.

Also on each table I found a bottle of Kemang Steak's special BBQ sauce which tasted really good and of course you can add it as much as you want to elevate the flavor of your dish.

Do keep in mind that all the meat weren't marinated before they're grilled. It's like when you're doing BBQ on New Year's when you grill chicken or fish, you applied the sauce as you grill the meat. Same goes here. As the meat were grilled, a special sauce (family recipe) is applied during the grilling process. Due to that, the sauce seeped inside the meat, giving you flavorful yet juicy meat.
The Beef Ribs came out first to the table. For the price range of only IDR 55K this was an enjoyment as I saw quite a huge rib served on a plate. And this dish also came with potato wedges and an Indonesian style salad which consists of corns, chopped carrots and green beans.
The ribs tasted good. The meat was tender and pretty juicy. You can actually just peel the meat directly from the bone instantly. But my complaint would be there were some fat still sticking.
The potato wedges weren't my cup of tea. I prefer something light-battered, or something that's not too thickly crunchy as it turned out biting the wedges was a bit hard. But you can opt for other side dishes such as mashed potato (we'll talk about this soon) and even rice, as any Indonesian would say: you haven't eaten if you haven't had rice.

The T-Bone was a bit over-cooked. As I remembered, my friend (this was his order) asked the level of doneness to be medium, and yet what came was almost well-done.
Luckily it didn't turn hard or rubbery. Flavorwise, it tasted the same as the beef ribs since it also used the same sauce in the grilling process. And yet I found quite a lot of fat in the steak.

The lamb chop came as a bit consolidation. Although (again) it was slightly over-cooked (almost well-done, not medium) but the meat was still tender. There was no strong tangy smell coming out from the steak too.

This was my personal order. Personally for my own palate, I can't say it was my cup of tea. The fish wasn't fresh. Visually it's beautiful as it came to my table, but the flavors were not balancing it. The meat still had that fishy, strong tangy scent like it's not properly cleaned. The weird smell somehow came as a very disturbing distraction. Luckily the Kemang Steak's BBQ sauce helped a bit. Just a note, do put more attention on meat which has strong scent.

This is one side dish you can opt if you prefer something light-textured. But unfortunately this one was quite heavy, too creamy and grainy. Although it tasted good but eventually I found myself stopping at the second scoop of my spoon. It's too thick. Could be heavier than a plate of rice. But if you feel the need to get your tummy full, this dish might suit you well.

One of the variety of Indonesian dessert worthy to try. Grass jelly along with basil and syrup served cold. It's so refreshing. And I love the well-balanced sweetness also the nice taste of the grass jelly.

I'm so loving this drink, especially there's a bonus of lychee fruit inside. It's fresh, sweet and totally nice. A must-order.

Overall conclusion, if you feel the need to have steak the traditional way but in a more-modern-ambience, then you should probably consider Kemang Steak as a destination.
Sure, this place still has its slips and glitches, but I surely hope that in the coming future there will be improvement. The positive thing is that the price tags are quite affordable for a steak restaurant.

The venue was a quite spacious 2-storey building, located next to Naughty Nuri’s. The place was cozy as it was now a restaurant, instead of warung steak. The service was highly pleasant as well, since the waiters and waitresses were very responsive and able to provide great reference for the recommended dishes. Not only that, all the owners were also very friendly.

As the core distinctive point, all the meat of Kemang steak were not marinated and would immediately be grilled on coconut shell charcoal. Besides, in prior to the grilling process, the meat would be covered with special sauce, which was basically the family’s recipe of the owner. Thus, during the grilling process, the sauce would be perfectly seeped into the meat. Not to forget, their signature barbeque sauce, which you could enjoy with your steak as much as you wished.

The steak itself was actually steak that has been adjusted to suit Indonesian’s taste bud. Thus, it would always be served with the “Indonesian salad”, which was basically the combination of carrot, snaps, and corn sautéed together. Regarding the meat quality, you needn’t worry as all the meat served here was imported ones. For the carbo part, there were several choices provided; ranging from potato wedges, mashed potato, and of course the one any Indonesian would always request, rice. For me, both their potato wedges and mashed potato were must-try! The potato wedges were perfectly friend into golden-brown, with crispy texture outside but very smooth inside. It was well-seasoned and you could strongly felt the rich taste. On the other hand, the mashed potato also perfectly suited my preference as it was so moist and it had slight milk taste.

My personal order was the Beef Ribs, whose size was apparently quite small. The taste was quite good as it was well-seasoned, but I had to admit that this one was not my favorite. If I might suggest, I guessed it would be far better with less fat.

I was so happy finding out that we were also served with several dishes to be shared. Besides, I did try some of my friends’ dishes. For the beef ones, I had Australian Sirloin, T-Bone, and Rib Eye. Taste wise, they were pretty much the same as the sauce was actually similar. I guessed the doneness level for all of them were medium-well. Though the T-Bone was slightly over-cooked, the sirloin and rib eye were perfectly cooked, since you still could see the pink color at the middle part. These two were tender and juicy. If you asked me which one was the best, I would answer that it depended on your preference regarding which part you enjoyed the most. As I preferred the thinner part, I would go for Sirloin. However, if I might choose, Tenderloin would definitely be lovelier as it definitely would have less fat.

Besides beef, I did try two of their fish-steak selections, Salmon and Red Snapper. Surprisingly, I loved the fish steak far more than the beef one, especially the Salmon. For me, Kemang Steak’s Salmon was surely not to be missed. It was so fresh that the texture was so soft and the skin was flawlessly crispy. Additionally, the seasonings were balanced, letting your taste bud to be pampered with the luscious taste.

Kemang Steak also had several signature beverages, all of which I tried today. This mixed juice was the blend of broccoli and kiwi, topped with various small-cut fruits. You could enjoy the health benefit without having to feel the veggie taste on your taste bud.

In a nutshell, Kemang Steak is a restaurant where you can enjoy Indonesian version of steak in a modern ambiance, which you'll rarely find with other steak houses selling similar types of dishes. For you who wants to give a try for Kemang Steak, I recommend you their Salmon Steak; while for beverages, you might taste their signature ones. Talking about price, you needn't worry as all the dishes at Kemang Steak are highly affordable. The steaks range from IDR 55k to IDR 105k, while the beverages start from IDR 5k up to IDR 25k. If you live around PIK area, Kemang Steak even provides delivery service so you can enjoy the steak at your home. Happy trying!
