Shirayuki (previously Kabocha) is one of the trendiest dessert parlors located at the hottest culinary spot in north Jakarta, Pantai Indah Kapuk. Yes, as you might have guessed, they do sell Japanese based desserts, mostly green tea. As a huge fan of green tea, Shirayuki was like a heaven for me.
It was filled with lots of people when my sisters, my brother in law, and I got there. We had to wait for about 15 minutes until we could finally get a table.
I didn’t realize that Christmas is almost here until I saw that the café was decorated with such adorable Christmas ornaments.
I was admiring the stunning decorations when I heard that the cotton candy machine was broken. My jaw dropped. I thought, ”Hmmm What a ‘great’ day!” We wanted to visit Shirayuki because of the pretty Watanoki Matsuri.
With a heavy heart, we decided to order the Bailey’s Kanten
(IDR 36K++) and the Premium Viva La Cocoa Yukidaruma
(IDR 58K++) instead.
The Bailey’s Kanten consisted of kanten; jelly (duh, of course!), baileys, and mixed of green tea and kashoku (peanut) ice cream (It depends on your choice of ice cream flavor). Before we can dig in, the staff has to push the jelly grater resulting in noodle like jelly. Then, we have to pour the baileys onto the jelly and voilà the kanten is ready to be eaten.The kanten itself was very subtle and the bailey gave much richer flavor to it. Although, I do regret choosing the mixed ice cream as I could barely tell the difference between them. Nevertheless, the ice cream was pleasurable as it wasn’t very sweet.
The Premium Viva La Cocoa Yukidaruma consisted of jelly, mixed nuts, stuffed mochi, almond, ice mochi, and sprinkled with chocolate sauce. The staff told us that we had to destroy Mr. Snowman first before we could sprinkle it with the chocolate sauce. Sniff sniff, it was too cute to be destroyed.
Okay, the snowman was INDEED pretty but flavor wise not so great. It was enjoyable but I didn’t taste anything special from it.
Halfway eating the killed snowman, our wish came true. The cotton candy machine was repaired. Without a doubt, we directly called one of the waiters and ordered the Dreamy Pink Watanoki Matsuri that we had been waiting for.
Dreamy Pink Watanoki Matsuri (IDR 37K++) consisted of strawberry cotton candy tree with warabi mochi under it, brown sugar sauce, and your choice of ice cream. The cotton candy was big and fluffy but be careful as it was too crumbly and it will make your clothes dirty if you are not careful enough. Also, if you want to order the Watanoki Matsuri only for yourself, DON’T, unless you have a “real” sweet tooth.
