Karena lagi kepengen banget makan yang 'out of the box' alias udah bosan dengan genra makanan 'biasa', saya pengen coba Turkuaz. Aduh enak banget kejunya berasa tapi gak eneg. One of the best appetizer I have ever had! Meski saya agak 'takut' makan lamb, tapi saya pikir klo udah disini ya coba aja deh. Lambnya hasilnya ga bau loh! Enak banget! Bumbuya gurih2 asin sedikit asam. Jadi kayak lasagna timur tengah. Agak berminyak sih..sebzeli mussaka: Ini sebenarnya sauteed Vegetables biasa. tapi enak banget!

The food here is just excellence. The appetizers like hummus, babaganoush are the best I've tasted in Jakarta. Includes their main course dishes, especially the meat dishes. Better than Al-Nafoura in my opinion. That includes their signature dish which is the Lamb Shank. IT's just so good. Went there on a friend's birthday. The chef which is the owner himself would come to your table, serve you and talk about the dishes presented. Very friendly and amiable. I complained a bit about the sauce being a bit salty and he immediately tasted the dish and apologize on the spot. If you have money to splurge, this is the place to have great food, for it's pricey for sure. They do not sell wine, but if you bring your own wines, a Rp. 80,000 corkage fee is applied. continue reading

Upon our arrival at the restaurant at around 6:30 on Saturday evening, the dining room was still half empty. My wife and I was told that during reservation it would fill up later in the evening. It did got a little more crowded, at half past seven. We finished our dinner at 8 p.m. and the dining room was almost full, although it was the week of Lebaran. The restaurant is located at Jalan Gunawarman, not far after turning right on Jalan Wolter Monginsidi. It will be easily missed if one is not familiar with the area. Inside, we were greeted with a large chandelier that looked like we were in a middle eastern place. Then the waiter took us to the dining room.To start our dinner, we ordered Cay (hot Turkish tea) and Ayran (Turkish Yoghurt drink). The Cay, priced at Rp 33.000, wasn't too different than regular black tea. It tasted like Sariwangi, a local tea. Meanwhile, the Ayran, priced at Rp 38.000, wasn't a sweet yoghurt one would find at supermarkets; in fact, it was sour and salty. For the main course, we ordered Manti, Sis Kebab, and Adana Kebab. We didn't order the lamb shank as we were excited to try the Sis Kebab and Manti specifically.Manti - Rp 105.000Steamed spiced minced lamb in homemade dough dressed with yoghurt garlic, butter and dry chili. At first when it appeared, we were surprised that the dish was poured with a lot of yoghurt. We thought it must be sour. After having the first bite, although it was sour due to the yoghurt, the minced lamb tasted good. After having a few bites, then we were happy we ordered the dish as both the strong smell of the lamb and the sour yoghurt complemented each other. This dish alone made the experience memorable as we don't get to eat something like this elsewhere.Beef Sis Kebab - Rp 210.000Char grilled marinated meat cubes with Icli Pilav.Although the meat resembled a regular fillet mignon we thought we would have found elsewhere, the marinade and seasonings of the meat was unique to Turkuaz. The steak was tender as it was cooked Medium. It had even pinkish color throughout the center and the dark brown surface showing the meat was cooked fine. Overall, we think the dish was worth the premium.Chicken Adana Kebab - Rp 80.000Char grilled minced meat and chili paste with Icli Pilav. So we were not too full due to the small portions from the two previous dishes. Hence, we ordered our third dish to fill our stomachs up. This was the least exciting dish to talk about. The minced chicken was okay, not as memorable as the first two. The texture of the kebab was similar to fishcakes, with few hard stuffs found in the kebab. We thought it was a bunch of rosemary, and it was indeed the herbs that was minced in the kebab. We don't recommend the dish, although the price was reasonable.Overall, I think it is a decent restaurant if you'd like to eat something different than your usual Western food fare. The Turkish meal here, in our opinion, was pretty authentic, and comparable to Turkish restaurants in San Francisco and other parts of the world, although we can't determine if they really are authentic as we haven't been to Turkey. continue reading

Nyobain aneka makanan Indonesia, Jepang, Cina,Korea, Arab, Itali, Jerman, sampe Prancis udah pernah. Gimana kalo makanan Turki? Paling mentok makan kebab Turki hahaha Tapi kalo makanan beratnya? Meskipun harganya mahal, tapi gak apalah coba sekali2 kuliner dari negara lain hehe You wanna try? continue reading
