"Meet The Chef" is an event organized by OpenRice along with Central Park Mall and Local Taste ID. Openrice cooperate with Hog's Breath Cafe and VMAD for featuring live cooking demo. VMAD is specifically for the vegetarian restaurant is located in Sarinah and Sunter, Jakarta. In the second chance 'cooking demos', VMAD presents two menu choices are Hakkabakka Noodles ( 49 K ) and Martabak Cyelon ( 29 K ). Their taste was so good , i have no idea if the vegetarian food can be tasty as it is and it's more healthier .Jamaican Cooler is made of milk, cashew nut, vanilla ice cream and mocha syrup. The flavor of cashew nut is very unique. The second drink is Green Fantasy is made of pineapple, lime, and green vegetables. I like Green Fantasy than Jamaican Cooler, the taste is so fresh and makes you want to drink more.Thank you OpenSnap and OpenRice for invite me to this event. Hakka Bakka Noodle (IDR 49k)Yellow noodle mixed with sauteed vegetarian chicken, fresh vegetables, then gently mixed with black pepper sauce, vegetarian oyster sauce, and sesame oilRasa black pepper sangat mendominasi sehingga terasa pedas di mulut namun tidak membuat sakit perut. Murtabak Ceylon (IDR 29k)Thin crust stuffed pancake carefully fried to get crunchiest layer and minced chicken filling, served with crispy potato fries, spicy curry, and fresh picklesAda yang menarik dari demo pembuatan martabak, karena saya berkesempatan belajar membuat martabak... langsung pada bagian yang paling menantang yaitu melebarkan adonan kulit martabak. Ternyata memang sulit! Nomnom! Two thumbs up VMAD fot its yummy-flavourful foods and decent drinks!

Hi Openricers. We are beginning to enter the rainy season, right? Usually I love the rainy season, not including the flood though. Well since Jakarta tends to get pretty hot the last couple of months, it's a delight to get some breeze air once in a while. But last Sunday (16/11) I really hoped it won't rain all day. Why? Because I got invited by Openrice Indonesia to attend the cooking demo at the Picnic Over Tribeca event. For this event, Openrice held cooking demos which involved two restaurants. One of them was VMAD Vegetarian Madness. It's a vegetarian restaurant which serves mainly Indian cuisines.I've had my moments with vegan dishes. Can't say that I'm fond of it, since most vegan dishes I tried either tasteless or perfectly bland. So for all my life I'm a devoted carnivor . But the fact that VMAD is an Indian restaurant tickles my taste buds. You know how Indian cuisines are just very very bold in using spices. I'm just curious on how those vegan dishes will come out. Here goes.Hakka Bakka Noodle - IDR 49K.Yellow noodles mixed with sauteed vegetarian chicken, fresh vegetables, and then gently mixed with black pepper sauce, vegetarian oyster sauce, and sesame oil.The fact that they cooked this dish using sesame oil is an important factor regarding health. And this dish itself was insanely delicious although I didn't pretty much like the overpowering black pepper sauce. For me, it kinda drowned the other flavors of the spices. But it's delicious though. Very bold flavor indeed.Murtabak Ceylon - IDR 29K.Some of the foodbloggers were given a chance to try and make their own murtabak. It's actually pretty fun flipping and flattening the dough, but it turns out not to be as easy as it looks. Well it is best to leave it to the pro.Thin crust stuffed pancake with spicy minced vegetarian chicken filling, served with curry sauce. The crust is fried to get the crunchiest layer outside. For my palate, the murtabak itself was really good. The filling was awesome. Delicious and savory too. Too bad though for the curry sauce. It lacked flavor. I felt as an Indian restaurant, they could've made this curry sauce more shining, more outstanding. At the end of the day, I just found myself munching the murtabak without the curry sauce. But hey, everyone has their own palate right?Green Fantasy - IDR 35K.One of the few drinks served by VMAD and absolutely my favourite that day was the Green Fantasy. This juice is a mix between pineapple, mountain farm chicory, pure lime extract, and sugar syrup. The pineapple really shined here. And the overall taste was an enjoyment for me. I'm just loving this juice.Jamaican Cooler - IDR 36K.Aromatic mocha flavored beverage blended together with vanilla ice cream, fresh farm milk, sugar syrup and roasted cashew nuts. This one is more creamy due to the use of milk and ice cream. Flavorwise it's nice too. The sweetness was fine and not overwhelming. And the thickness was just right.Overall conclusion, this might be the first ever vegan food that suits my palate perfectly. Bringing Indian influences surely put a great impact in terms of flavor. In here, you will not find tasteless vegan food, instead your taste buds will be indulged by the richness of spices in every dish.So it's a good alternative even for carnivors or non-vegan foodies who would want to eat a more healthier food and convert to a more healthier lifestyle.Prices are fair compared to the taste and I will certainly be happy to make another visit.Keep on chewing!Jazzy DeeFor more of my culinary journey, visit: http://designerdoyanmakan.blogspot.comTwitter: @jzzydeeInstagram: @jzzydeeQuestions: ask.fm/jzzydee continue reading

VMAD is a Vegetarian Indian Restaurant located in Sarinah and Sunter. VMAD here is trying to let people know that vegetarian food can be as good as the non vegetarian food. And they're obviously healthier.Hakka Bakka Noodle (IDR 49.000)Fried yellow noodle mixed with sauteed vegetarian chicken and mixed vegetables, and gently mixed with black pepper sauce, vegetarian oyster sauce, and olive oil. Even though it looks like a normal fried noodle, the taste was not just normal. It was BOLD. It's sweet and savoury and peppery in the balanced way. The vegetarian chicken they used here are actually made of soya bean, but it tasted quite similar to chicken.Murtabak Ceylon (IDR 29.000)Thin crusted pancake stuffed with spicy minced vegetarian chicken filling, served with Indian curry sauce. As expected from Indian food, this one's also bold and spicy. Nicely done, love the crispy outer layer and also the spicy chicken filling.Jamaican Cooler (IDR 36.000) and Green Fantasy (IDR 35.000)Jamaican Cooler is made of mocha syrup, vanilla ice cream, milk, and cashew nuts, while Green Fantasy's ingredients consists green veggie, lime, and pineapple. Both are cold and refreshing, but I love the Jamaican Cooler more as it's sweet and creamy but not heavy. continue reading
