Well, we are now entering the fasting month. And if you go to the mall, you will see line-ups of people in restaurants who wanted to eat when it's almost time for the break fasting.
At the first day of the fasting month I went to Central Park Mall. As always, the mall was pretty crowded with visitors, and almost every restaurants were fully occupied. But there was one restaurant that catched my attention. Not only was it fully occupied, but also people would go in the waiting list just to eat there. Was it that good?
That's why I decided to grab a bite at Fish & Co. This restaurant has a separated dining area which was an island, located in front of their restaurant. When I got there I had to be listed in the waiting list. It was very crowded, full of people. It took me about 10 minutes to be seated. You can't expect too much for the ambience since it is located in an island section of a mall. But the restaurant put quite a lot of decorations to give a sea-look impression. There are some seats with beach umbrellas and also they put a boat steering wheel in the columns. But besides that, there was nothing else too fancy about the decorations.
The restaurants have quite a lot of waiters, and they were pretty hectic with the service. But overall you can expect a good and fast service here, even when it's crowded. The star of the restaurant is definitely the fish and chips menus, but they also serve other menus like soups, salads, pastas, pizzas and desserts. There are also a wide range of seafood varieties such as prawns, salmons and clams. You could choose different platters too. So let's see what I ordered. So first I ordered something that was recommended in the menu. The Best Fish & Chips In Town! - IDR 89K. Considering they named it as the best well I just gotta tried it.
And when it came to the table, my first impression was the portion is so big. Yup, a big size of deep fried dory fish fillet, covered in a thin layer of batter and lemon butter sauce on the top.
The dory fish was superb. Very excellently executed. I loved how they deep-fried the fish but still managed to kept the firmness and the juiciness of the fish meat. There was no tangy and fishy smell coming out of the fish too. Brilliant. The batter was seasoned nicely. A nice level of savoriness, and it goes prettty well with the moderate level of acidity I got from the lemon butter sauce. And there was also a lemon wedges given in case I would want to add a little more acidity for the fish.
The french fries were also good. They were tender and seasoned nicely as well. Certainly the best fish and chips in town. Bravo! I was quite surprise to see they incorporated an Indonesian sauce in their "fish and chips around the world" menus. So I gave Bali Fish And Chips - IDR 89K a try.
Basically for the fish and chips menu, they used the same deep-fried dory fish. They just use different sauces as the toppings. For the Bali Fish And Chips, it used Sambal Matah as the sauce. Sambal Matah itself is a traditional raw chilli sauce originated from Bali. It is a predominately shallot and chili based condiment.
The Sambal Matah in this dish tasted pretty mild for my palette. It's not too spicy and very acidic, and also quite savory. For the fish since it used the same deep-fried dory fish fillet, I'm not going to talk about it again. But I have to say the fish and the Sambal Matah really went well together. It complimented each other taste very nicely. I would really recommend this menu if ever you should come to this restaurant. For the beverages I ordered something fresh. My choice was the Kola Tonic - IDR 32K. It is a mixture of Cola and Sprite. It's really refreshing. In my opinion, soda is always a good companion for any deep-fried food. The last one I ordered was Blackcurrant Tea - IDR 28K. It had a balanced level of sweetness. So I felt the taste of the sweet blackcurrant but I also didn't lose the bitterness of the tea. And it's also refillable too. So I'm loving this drink.
Overall conclusion, now I can see why people would even go in the waiting list just to eat here. The fish and chips were so good, and I think it's worth waiting for.
The portion was very generous. The size of the fish is big, and the amount of french fries is quite a lot. The prices are quite high, but overall it's worth it considering the delicious meal and the portion you will get for the amount you pay for.
The service was also good, even in a crowded and hectic dining hour.
It's another favourite dining spot to be entered in my list. I recommend this restautant. Give it a try!
Keep on chewing!
