Ice cream itu jadi salah satu makanan favorit hampir semua orang. Cuma gelato yang menggunakan teknik molecular gastronomy di surabaya, kayaknya baru ron's laboratory deh. Karna baru sedikit, jadi ron's laboratory di surabaya ini cenderung lebih rame dibandingkan ron's laboratory cabang Jakarta.Kalau di Surabaya, ron’s laboratory buka tempat di Galaxy Mall, salah satu mall yang cukup besar di Surabaya. Tempanya cukup luas, fancy, dan cozy. Pembuatan ice cream juga dilakukan secara terbuka, sehingga customer bisa melihat sendiri proses pembuatan ice cream yang menggunakan nitrogen liquid ini.Pelayanan juga cukup baik dengan pakaian ala ala dokter, eh salah, mungkin lebih kayak peneliti di lab gitu ya, pokoknya unik dan lucu.Harga gelato ini cukup premium aka mahal untuk sebagian besar orang jawa timur, tapi karena unik, makanya masih ada aja yang beli, hahah.Green tea gelato dengan topping nutellaTermasuk salah satu varian rasa paling baru setelah green tea emang hits dan menggempur lidah kita banget. Kali ini pilih topping nutela, toppingnya gak terlalu banyak, hanya dipasang sebagai pemanis aja menurut saya. Tapi emang lebih baik gini, karena kalau terlalu banyak, rasa nutella yang strong bisa aja ngalahin rasa dari green tea. Disajikan dengan cup kecil, sendok dan signature injection yang berisi cairan manis yang membuat kita mengatur sendiri rasa manis sesuai dengan keinginan.Untuk varian yang satu ini, harganya 70 ribu rupiah, tergolong mahal buat kantong mahasiswa kayak saya, makanya jangan sering sering beli atau jajan di sini kalau nanti akhir bulan gak pengen makan nasi dan garam doang, haha. continue reading

Looks like liquid nitrogen ice cream has become a phenomenon in Indonesia nowadays. Just like Jakarta, Surabaya is infected as well. Ron's Laboratory is the pioneer of liquid nitrogen ice cream in Surabaya. Fyi, what differentiates liquid nitrogen ice cream with normal ice cream is that liquid nitrogen makes smoother texture, as a result of extremely low temperature that prevents ice crystals to be formed.During meetup with my high school mates at Galaxy Mal, we chanced upon Ron's. Ron's at Galaxy Mal is rather small with only a few seats in shop and some few outside. I like the cool chemistry-themed atmosphere and the fact that all the staffs are dressed as laboratorians - I feel like I'm in a mad science lab.Red Velvet - IDR 60,000medium roast chocolate with cream cheese injectionChoices of variant were not that wide though. I saw some unique names like Rujak Sorbet, The Breakfast, and even Choco Windproof that was made from Tolak Angin (wth haha), but I was attracted to try their Red Velvet. The medium roast chocolate resulted in a reddish color of the gelato. It was served with an injection filled with cream cheese, how unique could it be? The gelato was very soft, not too sweet, and when you injected the cream cheese upon it, there was a hint of saltiness mmpphhh....just that it melts super fast one.Injecting cream cheese upon the gelatoRed velvet cake in form of gelato Overall, Ron's gelato is neither good or bad. IDR 60,000 for a cup of gelato perhaps is a bit too high, but I guess you pay for the experience. Second chance?
