authentic japanese shabu-shabu Smile Sep 04, 2011

It's August 31, the last day Bank Danamon Credit Card gives away 50% discount on dine-in food at Shabu Tei and off I go to take advantage of the discount. Mal Taman Anggrek comes to mind as it's only a few steps away from my place. Another perfect timing as I hit the place at dining hours and I'm on 2nd line of the queue. It's OK, will just take 15 mins or so... I tell myself. However waiting in a queue can be boring and by the time I feel like leaving the line altogether, I hear the waitress calls the name of the guy before me... and the guy doesn't show up. Hooray! Finally I get my table. Thank you, Mister In-Absentia, whoever you are.

As it's a shabu-shabu resto, ordering a shabu-shabu set is a must.
bowl Shabu Tei Special Seafood (Regular Set 120K): shitake mushroom, enoki mushroom, spring onion, carrot, beansprouts, tang o, chinese cabbage, radish, tofu, udon and steamed rice. To my disappointment, I find the set is much lesser than last time at Supermal Karawaci. Don't you guys have standard operation procedure on FnB management?

bowl Osaka Mix Bento (68K): unagi kabayaki, fried salmon, tempura maki, salad, rice. Overall it's just so so. Nothing special. The unagi kabayaki is flat and tempura maki is a bit let down.

bowl Tempura Somen (60K): It's a huge set menu consists of 5 items:
Tempura: prawn, carrot, eggplant, pumpkin and shitake.
Somen: somen in light soup of seaweed and leeks. The leeks are a plus point since they're so sweet and fresh.
Salad: cabbage, tomato, lettuce, cucumber coated with mayo.
Cawan Mushi: steamed egg garnished with shimeji and chopped shrimp.
Seaweed Soup: a plus point from Mal Taman Anggrek's Shabu Tei since I didn't get this at Supermal Karawaci's Shabu Tei.

bowl Ice Tea (12K)

Overall dining at Mal Taman Anggrek's Shabu Tei is a bit let down. How come I get the feeling that they cut down on our portion since we mention we'll be using Bank Danamon Credit Card? However I must give credit to where it's due. Shabu Tei's shabu-shabu is my fave so far, and I can't ignore the fact that the resto is fully packed tonight. At certain time, the waiters are struggling to serve the dish on time. Keep up the good work, guys smile

When it comes to baked potato, Wendy's is absolutely one of my pick... Baked Potato Broccoli and Cheese for Rp. 20K. The fast food chain is very generous on cheese melt. Hot melting cheese and spreads of broccoli on top of a huge baked potato. The star is of course none other than the potato itself. Golden crispy brown skins and soft, tasty potato-goodness inside. Actually I like this as a tea-snack, but it also goes great as lunch.tongue

To make it perfect, I ordered a cup of Milo Medium for Rp. 9,500, and a cup of Coke Medium for Rp. 8,800.

My best buddy is in town. It's Friday eve and we'd made an appointment to meet up somewhere near my office. Central Park comes in my mind since it's my backyard playground. I don't have to go through all the parking lot fuss... will save me a lot of time and trouble. We strolled along the Tribeca Park, passing by a few cool restos... and heading to the Nanny's Pavillon. To my surprise, I spot some free seats at The Nanny's. No long queue as usual, and we find some free seats in the indoor wing of the resto. Maybe it's weekdays and people are still struggle with the traffic... so it's a blessing in disguise for us, huh?

Since we just need a place to catch up and don't feel like eating much, we decide to merely pick some appetizers:
bowl Dad's Favorite Fries (29K): crunchy french fries coated with melting mozzarella and minced beef. For me, it's a huge bowl and certainly fit as a main course rather than an appetizer.
bowl Sam's Portabello Salad (17K): a huge shitake covered in melting mozzarella, with a few lettuces and baby tomatoes. Light enough for an appetizer.

And the star of the night is definitely the Nanny's Cocktail Blueberry (40K), which comes in a huge vase-like jug, good enough for 4 people. Quite value for money.

Overall I'm always happy dining and hanging-out at The Nanny's. However I think they need to work on a bit on the service department. The waiters are too slow... we're being left out in cold for almost 5 minutes to the point that we lost our patience and shouted at one of the waiter, asking for a menu list. My friend didn't get her share of napkin, and we had to shout at the waiter again... The resto was not packed at that time anyway, these waiters certainly need a little make-over on the service attitude.

I was making a quick stop at Mal Taman Anggrek and craving for coffee buns.

The coffee buns here are good, the outer skin is crunchy and the cheese filling is yummy.
I recommend:

It's nice and very yummy. Indeed.
Filling: Cheese Cream
Size: Nice for each one of us
Design: Luring
Cost: IDR 8k/piece

The shop is quite nice, sitting at the corner of strip of shops where traffic is nice... bringing much attention due to the luring smell of hot fresh buns which are always in the air.

Service is always nice. Enjoy!!!

While we're at it, let's go to the next review for another takeaway dessert... and this time it's the super delicious homemade cake slices from Dapur Cokelat.

OMG is all I have to say! Super moist cakes... I have tried a total of four different flavours now and each one has the same moist mouth-watering trait.

The Two Seasons cake was so good. The perfect combination of dark and white chocolate mousse. An all time favourite for chocoholics. It had the right amount of sweetness layer per layer, at a total of 6 layers... from bottom up: sponge cake, dark choco, sponge cake, white choco, sponge cake, melted choco. YUM! I can still taste the wonderful choco in my mouth. I would've liked it if they added some chocolate chips in this one too. It would've been that much better.

I'm a fan of Mango Cassata A superb combination of choco sponge and pureed mango mousse. Extremely addictive! They weren't too sweet and just the right size. The cake were not pricey, delicious, good texture, perfect amount of sweetness and fresh.

Next on was Mocca Cake . That drizzled mocca layer was yummy.

The texture was just so soft and moist and of course not overly sweet. The cake was moist and worth the break in any diet.

Anyway it's a cute little shop with friendly employees. Very nice clean shop with cute decorations. Also as small gifts that you can pick up, but not much. Sometimes you just get that craving, not just for sweets, but slices of cake from Dapur Cokelat, and this hits the spot.
