We all have crappy fast food that we secretly crave. Some people like the McNuggets, others like the greasy hot pockets taco. Me - I love Yoshinoya Beef Bowl.

This place is awesome if you are looking for a quick and cheap bite to eat. Don't expect amaaaaazing food but do come here if you want some good food at a really great price!

Sure, the beef is extra fatty - and not in the flavorful marbled Wagyu beef way. But hey, Yoshinoya started as a place for blue collar workers on the docks so they aren't going to be serving nice cuts of beef here. And without the fat, the beef strips would not taste very good.

However here are the redeeming qualities: it's cheap (where else can you get lunch for approximately IDR 30,000?)

Today I don't opt for my usual beef bowl, but for The Chicken Karaage instead.

CRISPY SET CHICKEN KARAAGE IDR 20.909++
The plate came with 4 pieces Karaage, white rice, vegetable salad and hot/cold ocha. I thoroughly enjoyed my meal. The chicken coating was crispy and not greasy. The meat was
crispy on the outside and soft in the inside. It was juicy, cooked just right and flavorful. Nice balance. The carrot and cabbage salad came with a yummy creamy mayonnaise.

Cold Ocha

It has a free self-served ocha from the big, rectangular, plastic container at the counter.

The portions were just right, and the prices were fair. The menu, posted on the wall. is large and varied. It is diverse enough to satisfty my cravings for every occasion. Most items price between IDR 30,000 to IDR 45,000, affordable for the leanest of budgets.

SERVICE
Service was fast and friendly, but there weren't many people around when I was there. I didn't wait longer than maybe 5 or so minutes for my food to come out.

EXPENSE
Great value here. All meals are far less than IDR 50,000. The portions are decent size and most importantly the food is good.

Downfalls?
None really.

A satisfying experience throughout, Yoshinoya should be a must-try destination for Japanese foodies who are looking for good, heart-warming, clean food. To good eatings.

Note:
Not a place for "fine dining". Don't expect much from the place itself. Anticipate the food.
Drink refill available on self-service term.
Before coming here, make sure you have CASH in your wallet as they do not take plastic.

You'd never know Sukiya Gyudon existed from merely passing by it; it's hidden on the lower ground floor of Central Park Mall's east tunnel, next to the Mandiri ATM Center. The parking situation on the surrounding streets is hopeless, do don't even bother looking. Just park in the mall's lot and get your ticket.

MENU
The menu was pretty eclectic. There were a zillion gyudon (beef bowl) varieties, as well as "sets" (gyudon with a couple of other little side dishes) and some other types of dishes.
sukiya gyudon

sukiya gyudon

As soon as I got here, I got seated. Beautiful.

Menu's were at the table already. Awesome.

Pictures of all the food. Nice.

I had to ask the waiter what was in each different gyudon before I said... never mind. I'll just get the basic Gyudon (Beef Bowl). So here we go...

GYUDON (BEEF BOWL) IDR 29,090++
I like my gyudon simple and beefy. So I ordered the basic gyudon, a bowl of rice topped with beef slices and onions. This was what a beef bowl, what a gyudon, was meant to be. It wasn't cheap-cheap, but at least it wasn't expensive.

As for its quality? This was a proper gyudon, with thinly sliced beef cooked through but never burnt, and served with a generous amount of rice.

BEEF CROQUETTE IDR 10,000++
Alas, the side dish was a bit "blah". The beef croquettes were pretty standard.

MISO SOUP IDR 4,545++
The miso soup I got was good. Very refreshing. However not much seaweed in it, just a few tiny pieces of tofu inside the sizzling soup.

Food came out very fast. It took around 5 minutes so it was a quick meal if there wasn't a big wait.
The only bad thing was they were small in size... you could inhale the whole plate and you would want more!

SERVICE
The staff was always so friendly and helpful. They provided such an amazing customer experience to ensure their guests were very well taken care of. They were also so polite and friendly.

AMBIENCE
It was very quiet and tranquil. It was usually not so loud or crazy. It was a little small so if it was busy, you might have to wait.

So to wrap it up, you can break Sukiya Gyudon down as:
Type.................... Authentic, Homely Japanese Gyudon
Location............... Inconspicious Eatery, Hidden in a Hustle-Bustle Mall
Prices................... Average
Food Level............ Average
Staff..................... Prompt, Professional
Noise Level........... Quiet
Decor................... Minimalist, Zen
Good for Kids........ Yes
Parking................. Huge Private Shared Lot
Recommended...... Yes!

In the busy shop infested THE BAYWALK, the food option is the Food Lounge, a concoction of "pricy cheap" eats, but, compared to other food court much better quality. I began my food jouney in Baywalk Pluit here.

THE GOOD
THe place is pretty spacious, but gets filled up real quick at busy hours. Set up is clean and great to come here during hot sizzling day because of the air conditioning!

THE NOT-SO-GOOD
Generally very high prices for local street food. You can definitely get much better local food at lower prices in the usual food centers or coffee shops.

However Food Lounge had my head spinning. All the choices and visuals. I found myself in a choice panic. Should I have noodles? Or meatball soups? But wait! Do I want something chill like Ice Kachang? Or roast pork?

After thinking hard. The sweet refreshing ice kachang won my attention.

The dessert is located at a stand in the Food Lounge called "Prince Singapore Dessert".

It was very refreshing with the shaved iced mixed with red beans, corn kernels and some kind of red jelly thingy.

Word of warning, although there is good quality here, there maybe better options elsewhere at other hawker centers.

Recommended Dish(es):  ice kachang

Indonesian food is one my favorite cuisines. Indonesian flavors are more complex, multi dimensional, spicy and just delicious. Pempek Kenari serves food that exemplifies this. I could probably eat their pempek every day.Pempek are deep fried fish cakes inside a vinegary sweet and spicy soup with noodles. Not the best I've had but I like the sauce. Note - super spicy soup.

I absolutely love their KAPAL SELAM (submarine pempek) IDR15000
It is made from a chicken egg wrapped within the pempek dough and then deep-fried. The name derived from the shape of the pempek that resembles submarine.

The submarine pempek was real pleasant and unique, consisting of fried fish cakes and hard boiled eggs, topped with a tangy and spicy sauce.

The eatery is clean and comfortable, no frills or fancy by any means.

The spot is CASH ONLY, so don't forget to come on an empty belly and plenty of rupiah bills in your wallet.

Overall, the food was super delicious and fresh, friendly staff and nice service.

domino's pizza, snack time OK Jun 30, 2015

Categories : Fast Food | Pizza & Pasta | Halal

I was looking for a late-night, inexpensive pizza to enjoy at home. I figured IDR33.000++ for a small-size Chicken Lovers pizza and IDR31000 for another small-size Hawaiian Chicken pizza from Domino's would be a good choice.

I opened the box, and being quite hungry, the contents look delicious and smelled great!

THE FOOD
Chicken Lovers (33k)
The tiny chicken balls were shockingly fresh. It is a decent size for 33k. That's enough to share with another person for a small size pizza. Flavors all came together just fine, but there's room to improve. Sauce/crust/cheese was a good mix, and meats were above average.

Hawaiian Chicken (31k)
I got a small pizza half chicken with pineapples! Can you say crispy fresh crust. Fresh pineapples, chickens. I ate all the crust and I normally leave end crust, not this time!!!

THE SERVICE
The cashier was nice and friendly.

THE LOCATION
The spot is decorated pretty cool. They play some good music and the palce all over has a fun and cool vibe.

I expect what I get! Not gourmet, but yummy.
