Last weekend probably one of the most memorable weekends that I ever had, because I got a chance to meet up with one of famous foodies and food bloggers, Ms. Daisy from Food Escape. So, we decided to meet up at Bunga Rampai restaurant in Menteng area because I had my previous appointment near Menteng area. (thanks Ms. Daisy for being so considerate!)

The restaurant looks like a huge Dutch colonial house from outside and once I went in to the restaurant, I literally was amazed by the grand interior and luxurious decoration. The restaurant itself is quite hard to find because it looks like a normal house, but if you pay more attention, you can see the clear signage of the restaurant. The waiting room itself is so luxurious as you can see in the picture above, the decorations really look expensive and deluxe. (especially those chandelier!)

The waiting room itself is already great and I have to told you that the dining area was even greater than the waiting room. They recently renovated the restaurant to accommodate more people to dine in. They have 1st, 2nd and 3rd floor, and each floor is estimated to accommodate up to 80 people. Each floor has different kinds of concepts and the concept for the 1st floor is an old-style fine dining concept. (thanks to Mr. Williams for showing us around the restaurant!)

The concept of 3rd floor is modern rooftop fine-dining, I was literally wowed when I arrived at the 3rd floor, because the place is really amazing and the lighting is really nice as well. I bet this place is really suitable for teenagers and young people, they also have a bar at the corner of the 3rd floor. Unfortunately, the restaurant was fully booked at that time, so we got a seat at the corner on the 1st floor. Oh, and have I told you that they have lift to carry you to another floor?

Let's move on to the food!

Nasi Buketan (IDR 95k)

Nasi Buketan is steamed aromatic pandan leaf rice served with diced omelet, beef skewer, galangal and tumeric fried chicken, potato and shrimp light curry, corn fritter, sweet soya been cake fritter, sweet potato chip, chili bilimbi fruit peanut sauce and shrimp crackers. I didn't get to try this one, but I was told it was delicious even though some ingredients were too sweet. I guess this will be a perfect choice if you prefer sweet main dish rather than savory one.

Overall, I enjoyed my visit to Bunga Rampai, I have to say they have great place for dating or family dinner. The foods and drinks they served tasted pretty decent and the service was friendly and nice as well. I gotta admit that the price of the menu was quite high, but it is nice to have a lunch or dinner at great place once in a while, right?

The interior is mostly filled with wood material and other Japanese decorations. The restaurant itself is small, I reckon they can accommodate around 20-30 people. It was not really crowded that day, I didn't see any customer(s) when I arrived, but after awhile I could see some people dine in at the restaurant.

Without further ado, let's talk about their food!

Kimuchi Ramen (IDR 59k)

The Kimuchi Ramen is a mixture of Japanese and Korean food, there are kimchi, shallots and slices of fish inside the ramen. The taste was.... weird, the broth was too watery, too sour, but a bit bland, I don't know how to describe this, but it was weird. The noodle was firm enough and the slices of fish were generously given, but unfortunately, it was not enough to elevate the taste of this dish.

Pasta Ebi Awuk (IDR 69k)

I honestly don't know what is "Awuk", (if you do, please let me know) but this Pasta Ebi Awuk was quite delicious, the prawns was big and it was seasoned nicely, but I felt the seasoning was too light and I guess I would like it more if the seasoning was bolder.

Overall, my visit to Sumo Sushi was okay, the food they served was definitely not the best Japanese food that I ever had, but some of them was unique. The service was okay as well, the waiter was friendly but they were slow in serving and responding to customer demands, especially when we had to call the waiter several times to get our ocha refilled. I believe they still have a lot of time to improve and I do hope they will maintain the uniqueness of their food, but with upgraded taste!

Dim Sum is a kind of Chinese Food that is very popular nowadays in Indonesia, many people love to eat Dim Sum because of its uniqueness and deliciousness. You can easily find Chinese restaurant that served Dim Sum in Jakarta. 48 DimSum Place is one of the Chinese halal restaurant that specialized in serving Dim Sum and Chinese Food, they claimed not to use any pork or lard on their food. The restaurant is located in Menteng area and can be easily found thanks to its huge signage and red-colored decoration.

The restaurant itself is quite big and spacey and I reckon they can accommodate up to 150 people. They have 3 kinds of dining area which are smoking area, non-smoking area and VIP room. They have 3 VIP room that can be used for private dining, each VIP room can accommodate up to 15 people. The decoration is mostly filled with wood material and Chinese-style decoration. You can also find a lot of steamer baskets decoration on the ceiling. (unique!)

Let's get started with their food!

Baby Duck (IDR 148k)

Baby Duck is one of the specialty menus that is served by 48 DimSum Place, it is a roasted baby duck that has been stuffed with secret spices and (gosh!) it was heavenly delicious! The baby duck was perfectly roasted, the skin was crispy and the meat was soft, tender, and flavorful. The secret spices was really amazing and it did a great job in elevating the taste of whole dish. Baby Duck is definitely a must-try dish if you come to 48 DimSum Place!

Tumis Otak-Otak dan Ikan Asin Kailan (IDR 78k)

This dish is literally Stir-Fried Kai-lan with Fishcakes and Anchovies. I also noticed some slices of ginger and bell pepper on the dish. The Kai-lan was fresh and the fishcakes was generously given and tasted pretty delicious. Overall, this menu tasted pretty decent although the ginger was overpowering the whole dish in my opinion.

Overall, I enjoyed my visit to 48 DimSum Place, the service was friendly and quick, the waiters will quickly refill your drink and replace your plate with a new one if it was already dirty enough. The price was also reasonable and affordable considering it is located in Menteng area. They also provide some unique and delicious dishes such as the heavenly delicious Baby Duck and Bakpao Cha Siew Ayam. I wouldn't mind to come back to this restaurant with my family to have a delicious Chinese cuisine. Oh, I also have been told they are planning to open another branch in Jakarta sometime soon!

Last but not least, thank you for having me 48 DimSum Place!

It's holiday and it's time to meet up with friends to chit-chat and eat a great food. That day, we decided to go to Pantai Indah Kapuk which is well-known as one of the famous dining spot in North Jakarta. We decided to have a good lunch at Carnivor that day, actually we have already planned to go to another restaurant but since the restaurant is closed due to Eid-al-Fitr holiday, we changed our plan and decided on Carnivor. Located near the super crowded Sumoboo!, I bet you won't have any difficulties in finding the restaurant. The restaurant itself is quite big and I reckon they can accommodate up to 100 people. The decoration is mostly filled with vintage things such as the old fashioned gramophone which you can see in the picture above. I love the concept of the restaurant as it gives off cozy and homey atmosphere. It was quite crowded at that time because it was lunch time, but thankfully I still managed to get a nice place with good lighting.

Let's talk about the food!

Sizzling Spicy Pork Belly (IDR 45k)

This menu was served in hotplate and it was really sizzling the time it was served. The pork belly was generously given and I love how they seasoned the rice. It was not really spicy and it tasted pretty delicious for me.

Once in a year, Jakarta will always experience the effects of Eid al-Fitr Holiday. (if you know what I mean) Sometimes, I think it is nice to spend holiday in Jakarta during Eid al-Fitr Holiday, because Jakarta is really quiet and free from traffic jam during this time. However (and sadly), those effects are not applicable to shopping malls, most shopping malls in Jakarta will be crowded and packed with people who search for food during this time. Because most traditional markets are closed during this time and most housemaids are going back to their hometown, so you could expect to see many people who decided to eat out at shopping malls during this time.

Let's talk about the snacks!

Original Large Fried Chicken (IDR 38k)

Well said, the fried chicken was really huge, the one I ordered came with original flavor and I opted for mild level spiciness. The seasoning was quite strong and similar like other Taiwan street snack stalls in Jakarta. The thing I love was, the seasoning was bold and it was great, I love bolder seasoning as it did great job in spoiling my taste buds. But, I was really shocked when I found out there was tons of dark-colored chicken bone hiding inside the flesh. (I prefer boneless fried chicken though)
