I have great news OpenRicers! One of the most well-known restaurant in Bandung, Hummingbird Eatery
has opened a new first branch in Jakarta, and it's in Kuningan City. Well, Just this afternoon, I'd heard from my friend who had lunch there, that Hummingbird was having an Opening Discount. So since I was planning to go to Kota Kasablanka, I could just drop by Kuningan City first. And after a 1-hour-road-trip (yes, even though it was Indonesia Independence Day, Jakarta wouldn't stop being busy!), I reached Kuningan City and looked for Hummingbird.
It's quite easy to find though, since it has a solid concept, and stand out exterior. With hummingbird as its name, the interior and exterior won't be too far from something birdy.
The place is bright, kinda woody (in exclusive way), and it's very comfortable. When you see the place for afar, you can see there's something like a bar with kitchen concept at the front. And once you enter the dining area, you could find cute shadowy hummingbirds pictures all over the wall. Tthere are trees in several places as decoration. They use several huge bird cages as their signature interior, and it looks nice. The seats vary from wooden normal chairs, to wall-sofas. But the funny thing is that all those wall-sofas were reserved even though till the next one hour, nobody was sitting some of the wall-sofas. I wonder why. But never mind.
Well, so we picked a round table, and sat there. We were given the menu books, and they gave us time to consider what to order. I saw several nice inviting menu with hummingbird symbol next to it, and that means, the menu is a hummer's favourite. I just fell for "Melting Mozza Chicken" at first sight which is a grilled chicken thigh, covered with melted mozzarella, but unfortunately, the waiter said they ran out of it. So with a slight disappointment, I moved on with the next hummer's favourite, which called "Rosemary Infused Roasted Chicken" and gladly, it was available. Next, my sis was looking for something Indonesian, and it appeared that they had this Half "Ayam Bakar" which looked very... Indonesian...
So, after being confused about what to choose, finally she picked the "Ayam Bakar" anyway.
For drinks, we had Iced Cafe Au Lait and Hot Tea (English Breakfast).
Just for around 5 minutes, they had already served our drinks. Then, for another 5 minutes, they served the roasted chicken. The "Ayam Bakar" was a bit late though. But for us, they had already done a great job in serving our order. Since the place is very nice, we wouldn't even object if we had to wait longer.
Tadaaa~ it's lunch time!
~ Rosemary Infused Roasted Chicken ~
Price: IDR 49.5 k
With a quarter of roasted chicken and mushroom sauce, we were also served fried potato (very similar to wedges) and green vegetables. It looked very appealing and after I tried it myself, I found that the taste was as good as it looked. It didn't disappoint me even the slightest. The roasted chicken was very delicious, with very soft texture. You can taste the rosemary smell after you put it inside your mouth, mixed with the light mushroom gravy sauce, feeling it melts with every bite. As soft as it is, you can effortlessly pull the meat apart from the bone. The fried potato was a very nice compliment. It's very crunchy in the outer layer, and very mushy in the inside. It was powdered with some rosemary herbs, and it tasted marvelous. Meanwhile, for the greens, we just ate it simply because it's healthy.
~ Half "Ayam Bakar" ~
Price: IDR 42.5 k
This was actually a value meal for us. Why? Because the chicken given is half, and it means bigger portion. When it came to our table, it looked very simple. Just two parts of the grilled chicken, steamed rice and sauteed veggie. They gave us a small plate of "sambal" too. Well, that's how my sister likes it, so I just had a try. Honestly, it's great! It's very Indonesian, especially the dark looking sambal. The grilled half-chicken was marinated with something sweet and it tasted very good. There was the typical Indonesian taste in the chicken, and somehow, it worked nicely in our tongue. And the sambal was very good, very hot. It had that sweet and hot sensation at once. Perhaps people who don't like hot stuff, won't like it. But for Indonesian cuisine lovers, they might find it difficult to resist this dish.
~ Iced Cafe Au Lait ~
Price: IDR 24.5 k
It's something very similar with Cappuccino, but with additional sweet Ice Cream on top. Honestly, this drink was super good for me. It was very bitter at first, like authentic Cappuccino, but after a quick stir (to blend the Ice Cream), you can taste a hint of sweetness in it. The sensation is very similar to the feeling when you find light in darkness. The more I drank it, the more delicious it tasted. So, yeah it was that good, seriously.
~ Hot English Breakfast ~
Price: IDR 18.5 k
This is a very common tea, English Breakfast. I actually wanted Earl Grey, but they didn't have it. So I just went with English Breakfast. It's served with a sweet-tasting mini cookie. At first, they didn't give us the sugar, so we had to ask them for it. Then they gave us a pack of sugar with some low-calory-sweetener.
Yeap, so those were what we had for semi-lunch. It was very satisfying, and after all, I could say that they live up to their reputation. The food was awesome, and the drinks we had were equally nice. It couldn't be any better. I'd love to try some other dishes, especially their Melting Mozza Chicken. It's probably going to be very delicious.
The price range for food from Eastern to Western is IDR 24.5 k (Appetizers such as Potato and Leek Soup and Chunky Chips), to IDR 127.5 k (Wagyu Steak). But don't worry, the average price for the main course is around IDR 40-50 something.
And for the beverages, it's starting from IDR 9 k (Mineral Water) to IDR 40 k (Berry White from Beer & Spritzer section). You can have something caffeine, to something alcoholic here.
Well, overall, Hummingbird Eatery is really a very nice restaurant. I definitely recommend it to you people if you're looking for something good to eat. I had a great lunch, and probably you will too. So, will you try? Virginia Woolf

Just not too long ago (well, it's been months) I went to Bali with my friends. It's on the 14th of June, and it's actually a prize from OpenRice! Thanks for that!
So I just have to review some of the restaurants I went to now. One of them is Bollero
I went to a couple of places, including Ubud since it's damn famous. Because we had not had our lunch, when we arrived, we just had to find a dining place. I searched on Google, and later found a couple of good restaurants. Since I used my GPS for navigation, I didn't find any trouble at all finding the location. Because Bollero was the nearest time at the time, we decided to go there by foot. After a 20 minutes walk, we arrived with hungry stomach.
The place looked nice, with a couple of Bules dining inside. It's not crowded, since it was 3 o'clock in the afternoon. We went inside and took the seats on the semi-second floor. It's nicer there.
The interior Bollero adopted is pretty casual with purple as the dominant colour. For the furnitures, they used a lot of wooden material, as to emphasize the traditional touch. Afterall, people always like Bali because of the traditional culture right? We found a set of sofas to sit on, at the second floor.
We were being served by a waiter, who was pretty friendly with us. All Balinese were friendly though, I think. That's partly the reason tourists like Bali too. We saw the menu book, and finally decided to have a set menu, Set Menu 1 with Soup, Appetizer, Main Course, and Dessert. Since there were four of us, we ordered two sets. I had an Iced Tea for Drink. Anyway, our set menu cost us IDR 99 k.
In Bali, usually restaurants always provide the customers choices of Set Menu. It's some sort of a Value Meal there.
Other than that, you can also find a lot of food here. Starters such as Egg Custard (29k) and Duck Spring Roll (24k), Soup such as Tom Yam Goong (32k), Alternative such as Bollero Pizza with tomato sauce, bell pepper, and cheese (48k) and Shrimp Quesadilla or something like Baked Tortilla (45k), and Main Course such as Sesame Coriander Tuna Steak (52k) and Beef Tenderloin (80k). They even have Vegetarian menu, such as Green Vegetable Curry (35k).
For those who like local cuisine, there are Chicken Coconut Lemongrass (45k) and Crispy Duck (72k).
If you want to enjoy some desserts, you can have Coconut Creme Bruelle (29k) or even Fruit Yogurt Honey (24k). Cocktail is available too.
I personally think the prices are pretty reasonable, since I knew a lot of restaurants in Bali with crazy prices. ~ Chicken Dumpling ~
Since for now, I have a limited photos, I couldn't upload a photo of this dish. But to tell you the truth, the Chicken Dumpling was pretty good. The taste of the soup was very light with a hint of saltiness. The Chicken Dumpling itself was full of chicken, and it tasted very delicious. It's a good start!
~ Calamari Fritti, Samosa, Duck Spring Roll ~
This is some sort of a platter, with three different appetizers and three different sauces. From the calamari fritti first, it's a regular crispy calamari with crunchy texture. You can dip it with tar tar cream for better taste. For Samosa, it's actually a triangle-like pastry. It's very crispy, with filling. But it tasted bad actually. I personally didn't like the taste. It's a bit weird. As for the dipping, it didn't suit my appetite too. Duck Spring Roll was just a common spring roll with duck filling. It's pretty okay, but I found it pretty mediocre.~ Crispy Duck ~
The Crispy Duck here was served with Half Steamed Rice and Half Yellow Rice. There are also some sort of Urap, sambal and Shallots as companion. This is actually a Balinese dish, and it's very famous here. That was the first time I tried it. The crispy chicken was actually very crispy. Seasoned nicely, the duck tasted very good, with a bit of saltiness, and savoury. The outer layer, was very crunchy as you take a bite, you will feel the crunchiness crumbles inside your mouth. With a perfectly cooked rice, the whole dish was perfect, and by that time, I had no doubt at all that this actually was a Balinese signature dish. The Urap was very good too! Well, simply, everything on the plate was very good.~ Kolak Pisang ~
Okay, this is a very good closing. It sounded very simple, just Kolak Pisang, a very traditional dessert. But with a very appetizing appearance, this dish looked stunning. It's no ordinary Kolak Pisang. It's a very well-made Kolak Pisang, with Waffle and Vanilla Ice Cream on top. it's actually a very good idea to put a scoop of Ice Cream on top, to make a new sensation, of enjoying Kolak Pisang in a cool manner. I just love it!
Well, for the drink, it's pretty common, and I have nothing to explain.
There's a free wifi facility here and electrical sockets too, in case you're running out of battery.
For me, this place is certainly a very good restaurant, and I am grateful I spent my day here in Bali. The place is very simple, but nice. And most importantly, the food is delicious. I was actually very curious with the Western menu, but maybe I'll try later, if I have a chance to go to Bali again.
For OpenRicers, you just have to check it out yourself here. It's really a good restaurant, as a lot of people suggest.
Probably one of the best in Ubud.
So, just thank you for reading a part of my journey in Bali. It's really nice there, and still I am grateful for the chance OpenRice has given me.
See ya OpenRicers.

Hey OpenRicers, I have news! For those who love noodles, there is a new Noodle House in Kelapa Gading Area. Actually It's been a few months, and I went there when it was newly opened. But I just got the time to review now, so here it is. Kedai Bakmi Kaipang
Located in Jalan Kelapa Kopyor Raya, Bakmi Kaipang is just a couple of houses with Bakmi Ko'Fei in the same area. Bakmi Kaipang certainly is striking with its wooden signboard wirtten "Kedai Bakmi Kaipang". Kaipang itself, if I am not mistaken, is related to the old beggar group from a long long time ago. But I never know whether they are actually naming their place in reference to the beggar group. But anyway, the curiosity striked me that time when I passed the street. Since I was looking for breakfast, I decided to give it a try though with my love one.
We parked our car in our apartment nearby, then took a walk there, since it is quite near. Then we went inside. The place itself is pretty common, but with some wooden touches. The tables and seats were made of wood, and the room is not that big. But I think it's perfect for family. The temperature itself wasn't hot that time. We sat down, and ordered some food. I wanted to eat their Noodle, so I ordered one bowl of "Mie Babi Cincang" or Minced Pork Noodle, which is a recommendation from the house. My loved one decided not to eat heavy meal, so we ordered one piece of Fried Meatball or "Bakso Goreng" and one piece of Fried Pangsit. Anyway, for my noodle, we also got extra pangsit in my soup. I think it's because they're newly opened at that time.
For Drinks, we ordered Es Teh Tawar and Es Dawet.
FYI, if you want to order Teh Tawar, it's free. In fact, we got 2 glasses of Teh Tawar Hangat too. they're an extra.
Just for a couple of minute, all the food was served, and we were ready to eat!
~ Mie Babi Cincang ~
Price: IDR 15 k
Okay, from the appearance, this noodle looks very normal, and common. Nothing extraordinary. But once I tried it, it's quite good. The noodle is actually a thin type noodle, and the texture is smooth and a bit oily (not over). The Minced pork on top really brings out the flavour, and it's a great match for the noodle. If you think it's just a typical sweet kind of noodle, you're wrong. It's more salty than sweet, and with the right amount of pounded chili, this noodle is a perfect breakfast, not to mention with a good price. For only IDR 15 k, you can have this noodle to satisfy your morning appetite. The Pangsit in my soup was quite good too. The outer layer was very soft and easily fell apart, while the minced meat inside was generous.
~ Bakso Goreng and Pangsit Goreng ~
Price: IDR 5 k and IDR 3 k.
I got to try this side dishes too that day, and all I know is actually the price of the Bakso Goreng is pretty pricy, It's a normal fried meatball. But it's actually quite good. The meatball was pretty densed in the inside, and it tasted nice. It's not like any other fried meatball with almost empty filling in the inside. It's quite crunchy too. While for the Pangsit Goreng, it's very common and it's nothing special. I prefer the Pangsit Kuah, in my soup.
~ Es Teh and Es Dawet ~
Price: IDR 2 k & IDR 5k
For the drinks, they were served in a quite big glasses. Nothing special with the tea (obviously) but for Es Dawet, it's pretty nice. Es Dawet is actually a refreshing drink with coconut and some sort of cendol alike thingy. It's all white here. The taste was sweet, and it's quite good for the hot day! And it's cheap!
That's actually my visit at Kedai Bakmi Kaipang. I think they have a promising future as a Noodle House. The Noodles they sell vary from minced pork, chicken, or even chicken and mushroom. All the noodles are IDR 15 k each. They also serve Nasi Ayam IDR 18 k. Probably will taste really good!
For side dishes, you can find Siomay (5k), Bakso Goreng (5k), Bakso Kuah (3k), Pangsit Goreng and Pangsit Kuah (3k).
They also have the special drinks, from Es Campur Tidar (10k) to Es Teler (10k).
In conclusion, I think you guys should have a try here, especially if you're living in Kelapa Gading. It's not hard to find the place, and the noodle here is great. Especially for noodles lovers, you just don't want to miss it!
So, just see ya again later OpenRicers, and have a good day!

Since Kota Kasablanka has opened, there are a lot of restaurants and cafes there, and one of them is Zenbu, House of Mozaru
Yes, great news ha? Especially if you live anywhere near that area. Now you can easily eat their famous Mozaru in Kota Kasablanka!
Since it's a new mall, many parts of the building haven't fully furnished yet. The same thing for Zenbu. Zenbu itself is located on the Upper Ground, and you can find it next to Black Canyon Coffee. The place is quite big, spacious, but looks very bland as for now, hey haven't fully finished with the Graffiti stuff on the wall yet, which is usually their signature interior. You can even find flowers arrangement if you go there these days, as a mark of the opening celebration. The tables and seats are quite similar with the other branches, and the ambiance is just warm and simply peaceful. Maybe partly it's because of the rare visitors. As for the service, the waiters were very helpful and welcoming.
For the menu, you can find several menus here, exactly the same with the other branches. You can find all Japanese Cuisines, from the famous Mozaru with many variants, Donburi, Teppanyaki, Udon, some appetizers, and even Sushi! The prices are similar too, with Appetizers starting from IDR 10 k for Edamame as something sort of Japanese snack, to IDR 65 k for Unagi Okonomiyaki, Main Course starting from IDR 30 k for Karaagedon or Yasai Ramen to IDR 195 k for 200 grams of Wagyu Beef (Teppanyaki Set).
While for drinks, starting from IDR 0 a.k.a "free" for Ocha, to IDR 40 k for Heneiken.
Okay, enough for pricing. Let's just get back to business!
I actually insisted on coming here last night, because I knew that they were having a discount promotion for the Grand Opening, 50% off for members, and 30% off for non-members, food only. It's great! And I love Discount! So, I just went there after picking up my sis from her office in PIK. It took me more than two hours to actually arrive... *starving*
I ordered Burger Mozaru (like I said in my previous post, I love their Mozaru!) and Salmon Teppanyaki. This time I ordered Large Mozaru, and Teppanyaki with set menu (Gohan and Miso Soup). For Mozaru, you can choose the sauce and the type of rice. The sauces are Tomato, Butter and Dynamite sauce. For the rice, you can either choose Butter Rice or Curry Rice. I chose dynamite sauce and butter rice, cause I was in love with no other than those. For teppanyaki, you can choose the sauce, either Black Pepper (spicy) or Gomatare (sweet). My sis chose the black pepper sauce.~ Burger Mozaru ~
Price: IDR 70 k
Mozaru is a rice menu topped with melted Mozzarella Cheese. I chose Burger (or beef patty) as the topping for the evening because I just thought it would be a perfect match for the mozzarella. And it didn't disappoint me at all. With the dynamite sauce, the whole dish was really delicious with no comparison. The burger was really meaty but tender in texture. The cheese was simply savoury and with a perfect sweetish dynamite sauce, the taste is simply unforgettable. The butter rice was lightly seasoned, and tasted very soft without being too buttery. I think, butter rice is just simply a perfect choice for the strong taste of the mozaru.~ Salmon Teppanyaki ~
Price: IDR 85 k
The Salmon Teppanyaki actually came without Gohan and Miso Soup, so you have to make it a Set Menu with extra IDR 15 k. In total, it cost us IDR 100 k. I was hesitant with my sis choice since the last time when we came and tried the Salmon Donburi at Zenbu in Plaza Indonesia, the dish turned out to be a disappoinment. But that's not the case for this visit. The salmon was perfect, without being too fishy. It looked fresh when it arrived on the hot plate too. We had to mix all the ingredients ourselves as we liked it. The black pepper sauce was provided, and also a plate of chili powder, in case you like it hot. After mixing the mushrooms, vegetables, and half-cooked egg, we were proud of what we have made. Then we ate. This teppanyaki tasted very good. The salmon especially, did a fine job in becoming the main star. But for me, If I could add, the Gomatare sauce might be a better choice for Salmon, instead of Black Pepper. But anyway, the Teppanyaki is really recommended too. The miso soup was quite good too.
Because we were not full yet, we ordered another menu, but only an appetizer (for the closing)... Crunchy Salmon!~ Crunchy Salmon ~
Price: IDR 28 k
This is actually a portion of fried salmon skin. I've always loved Salmon Skin, and here, it's quite good too. The salmon skin was battered and deep fried. That's why it was so crispy. You can listen to the crunchy skin crumbles inside your mouth when you bite it. With chili sauce as a dipping sauce, it simply became a good "dessert".
For our drinks, we just had Ocha. The Ocha here is free, and you can always have it refilled.
With 30% off discount, we had to pay about IDR 160 k in total, and I think it's quite okay since we had happy bellies here. The food was a satisfaction, the place is comfortable, and we couldn't find any flaw in their great service. I think, Zenbu here just have a bright future ahead! Let's see.
FYI, the 30% off discount is only until 15 August 2012. You can also become a member here, as it's free, all you have to do is dining in Zenbu for 6 times in 1 year span.
Happy eating OpenRicers!

Hi OpenRicers, back again with my last review for today! K's Bakery is actually a bakery which I have quite fond of a long time ago. K's Bakery is a bakery which located in Kelapa Gading, and you can easily find the place since it's quite big. It even had a big cute lion signboard on the top of the building. Yes, the logo that they have is a cute lion. The name of the bakery is pretty simple too, just K's.
Okay then, I will start with talking about the place. It's quite strategic actually, and with all the woody exterior, I think it wil be recognized easily from the outside. The place itself, is quite big for a Bakery, and if you go inside, you can see that all the interior is made from woody material too. Yeah, they are into Japanese Style Bakery, and that's why they use a lot of woody material. I don't have anything against the interior though, and I just think that the place is quite okay. You can also see a lot of wooden trays with a lot of bread on them. Yeah it's true that in K's, you can find a lot of bread, and sometimes you can find the rare ones. For example, just a couple of weeks ago, I found Sushi Roll Bread. It's very interesting, so I decided to buy 1. I also found the happening cake, and it's Rainbow Cake. They also used the opportunity to show what they could offer as the trend went by. Other than that, I found nothing interesting. But Vanilla Mango Pastry and Taro Bread were inviting too, so I just got those along with me.
The service was great, and that time, there were only two waitresses there, and they actually helped us pick our bread. They even explained to us about some of the bread so that we might know what we were buying. She did explain too about Sushi Roll that the inside was very similar to sushi, with Japanese Ginger, Floss, Lettuce, Kyuri, and extra Chicken Ham. It sounded nice, and she also explained that it should be eaten soon, cause it's freshly made. The Sushi Roll cost us IDR 12.7 k. The waitresses were pretty attentive and helpful. Great job.
I will just explain all the bread I bought. Here are them. ~ Sushi Roll ~
Price: IDR 12.7 k
This bread is certainly unique and I had never found anything like this before. The bread is breaded and deep fried, that's why it's quite crunchy on the outside. It was quite big too, and I think it's worth the price. The inside was quite unique and resembled fusion sushi. It had ham, nori, Japanese Ginger, some kyuri, lettuce and floss. The things that made it good were the floss which was really tasty and of course the ham. The ham tasted good, and it's the main ingredient inside. While the thing I don't like was the Japanese Ginger, cause I never like it. I dislike ginger, and that's why, I hate Japanese Ginger too. The taste of the ginger was weird.
Other than that, the kyuri, lettuce and nori made the bread tasted fresh. The bread itself was soft and not dense, that's why it was quite good overall.~ Rainbow Cake ~
Price: IDR 15 k
This Rainbow cake is not a rainbow cake you usually meet. it's a very simple Rainbow Cake which is wrapped with plastic so that it could last longer. It's more like "bolu" and I didn't care, so I bought it anyway. The colours looked striking, and at the first glance, I thought it was great. But then when I tasted it myself, I realized that it wasn't that good. That's right that the texture was perfect, soft and fluffy, but it's kinda dry, and it's way too soft. Just with a grabbing gesture, the cake would crumble down. The taste itself was very average. In each layer, you can taste several different flavours, but the thing is the flavours were kinda off. All in all, I won't recommend this Rainbow Cake to OpenRicers.~ Vanilla Mango ~
Price: IDR 6.5 k
This is a pastry with vanilla mango filling. First I thought it was an egg tart with pastry layers, but I was wrong. It was actually Vanilla Mango. It smelled really good and I think it tasted as good. The price itself is pretty affordable. The pastry was soft and easily crumbled. It's lovely, and especially good if you like light sweet flavour. ~ Taro Bread ~
Price: 5.3 k
This Bread is pretty unique, and the inside was Taro, which is pretty famous nowadays. from the appearance, it is pretty simple, and it has these black sesames all around the outer layer. the bread itself was pretty soft, and the texture was nice. You can easily chew it. While about the taste, you can taste the black sesame's flavour, and if you like sesame, you will love this. The taro inside was pretty good too. I think for people who like Taro, they will love this.Facilities: + Great Service
+ Wide Variant of Bread and Cakes
+ Freshly Made
Overall, I really think that K's is a good Bakery. It offers a lot of bread, and some unique delicacies. The taste of the bread is mostly great, and what's more, the price is pretty reasonable. For me, I would recommend you the Vanilla Mango Pastry and The Sushi Roll. They tasted great and they're pretty unique. For the sushi roll, you might think it's pretty expensive, but actually, it's worth it since the filling is quite a lot. If you like sushi, you might love this one.
For the service, I was satisfied, and they were very kind and at the same time, informative. The place is pretty average though, but it's never a problem since you are just going to drop by and buy something, then go home or somewhere right?
So, If you're living in Kelapa Gading and you are looking for a good bakery, you might just want to check this bakery out. It's great, quite affordable, and the service is great. Have a try then.
